Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to express my strong interest in the Business Recruiter position at Apollo.io. With over 7 years of full-cycle recruiting experience in high-growth SaaS environments, I have a proven track record of partnering with sales and marketing leaders to build diverse, high-performing teams. I excel at using data to drive sourcing strategies and hold the bar on candidate quality, ensuring every hire aligns with business objectives.
My experience with Greenhouse and Gem, combined with my passion for process improvement, has allowed me to create efficient workflows that scale. I am particularly drawn to Apollo's mission of revolutionizing go-to-market solutions and would be thrilled to contribute to your team as a talent advisor.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how I can help Apollo continue its rapid growth.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
Sample interview questions
In a previous role, a hiring manager insisted on a specific years of experience for a senior sales role, which limited the candidate pool. I presented data showing that candidates with less experience but strong ramp-up skills performed equally well, and we ultimately opened the role to a broader range, resulting in a top hire.
I track metrics like source of hire, time-to-fill, and conversion rates at each stage. For example, if I see a drop-off between phone screen and interview, I analyze the screening questions or debrief process. I then adjust sourcing or interview criteria based on that data.
I start by defining the ideal candidate profile and then map the talent landscape using tools like Gem. I prioritize sources based on past success and create outreach sequences. I also leverage employee referrals and passive candidates through targeted Boolean searches. I monitor pipeline velocity and adjust weekly.
I maintain the same bar regardless of urgency. I communicate openly with the hiring manager about trade-offs and set realistic timelines. I might increase sourcing volume or use alternative channels, but I never push a weak candidate through just to hit a deadline.
I created an automated email sequence in Gem that follows up with candidates who passed initial screens but were not immediately placed, keeping them warm for future roles. This reduced time-to-fill by 15% for subsequent openings and improved candidate experience.

About the Role
Apollo is hiring a Business Recruiter to own full-cycle recruiting across our Sales and Marketing organizations. This is a high-ownership role on a lean, high-performing team. You will manage a portfolio of mid and senior-level requisitions, build and execute sourcing strategies, and serve as a genuine business partner to your hiring managers. This role requires someone who operates with low oversight, self-diagnoses problems before they escalate, and brings a talent advisor posture to every stakeholder conversation. The best person for this role brings their own operating system and makes the team around them sharper.
What You Will Do
- Own full-cycle recruiting for mid and senior-level roles across Sales and Marketing, with consistent delivery across multiple verticals simultaneously
- Build and execute sourcing strategies that generate qualified, diverse pipelines, and adapt those strategies based on funnel performance, not just instinct
- Conduct structured screens and interviews, design interview plans, and lead calibrated debriefs that result in clear, defensible hiring decisions
- Manage 20+ phone screens per week and drive 360+ outbound contacts per quarter
- Hold the bar on candidate quality, give direct and honest feedback, and avoid passing weak profiles to sidestep an uncomfortable conversation
- Maintain accurate, real-time pipeline data in Greenhouse and self-report on progress to leadership without being asked
- Track funnel metrics, identify root causes of slowdowns, and bring data-informed recommendations to stakeholder conversations
- Partner with hiring managers and business leaders as a talent advisor: shape role scoping, set expectations on candidate profiles, and influence as a subject matter expert.
- Work cross-functionally with Finance, HR, and Compensation to navigate offer approvals and headcount processes with operational integrity
- Build or improve multiple workflows, processes, or tools that create efficiency beyond your own req load
What We Are Looking For
- 7+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience with a focus on Sales, Revenue, or Marketing roles in SaaS
- Demonstrated delivery in high-growth environments where you managed complexity and ambiguity
- Comfort and credibility working with stakeholders at all levels, including the ability to challenge and influence, not just execute
- Strong data fluency: you monitor your own funnel health, diagnose issues before they surface in a check-in, and use data to drive stakeholder conversations
- Proven AI and process efficiency capability: you have built repeatable workflows or automation that measurably improved your output, and you can speak to what you built, why it works, and what changed
- Familiarity with Revenue teams, high-performing marketing orgs, and product-led growth models
- Hands-on experience with Greenhouse and Gem, with clean data hygiene as a non-negotiable operating habit
- Clear, direct communicator who can influence without authority across functions
- High agency: you identify problems, generate solutions, and drive progress without waiting for direction
