I am writing to express my strong interest in the Principal Product Manager - AI Creation & Growth position at Smartsheet. With over a decade of product management experience, including deep expertise in AI/ML-powered features and product-led growth, I am excited about the opportunity to drive value for customers through intelligent content generation and self-serve activation.

In my previous roles, I have successfully taken ambiguous AI initiatives from 0 to 1, defining metrics and iterating quickly based on user feedback. I am particularly drawn to Smartsheet's vision of uniting human teams with AI agents, and I am confident that my background in building AI-assisted creation products and optimizing activation funnels will allow me to make an immediate impact.

I thrive in collaborative environments, partnering closely with engineering, design, and data science to ship delightful experiences. I am also skilled at communicating complex strategies to executives and cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment and execution excellence.

I look forward to the possibility of contributing to Smartsheet's next chapter of growth and innovation. Thank you for considering my application.

How would you balance improving AI output quality with the need to ship features quickly to drive activation?
I would set a clear quality bar for initial release and iterate based on user feedback and data. Release a minimum viable feature that provides value, then use experiments and metrics to prioritize improvements. Collaborate with engineering to implement feedback loops and model retraining pipelines.
Describe a time you turned a highly ambiguous AI initiative into a successful product. What metrics did you use to measure success?
At my previous company, I led the development of an AI-powered template recommendation system. We started with unclear user needs. I conducted user research, defined success as increased activation rate and time-to-first-value. We shipped an MVP, A/B tested, and iterated, ultimately improving activation by 20%.
How do you ensure alignment between product-led growth (PLG) and enterprise sales requirements?
I design self-serve flows that meet enterprise compliance needs (e.g., security, admin controls) while delivering a seamless user experience. I work with sales and customer success to understand enterprise pain points, then incorporate those into the product roadmap.
Walk me through how you would define and move a north star metric for AI-assisted onboarding activation.
I would define activation as 'user creates first functional solution using AI within 7 days.' To move it, I'd analyze funnel drop-offs, run experiments like simplifying template selection, providing contextual AI prompts, and measuring impact on activation rate.
How do you stay current with rapidly evolving generative AI capabilities and apply them to product strategy?
I regularly read research papers, attend AI conferences, and experiment with new models. I maintain a close relationship with engineering to understand technical feasibility. I also run small-scale prototypes to test new capabilities and assess their potential impact on our product.

For over 20 years, Smartsheet has empowered teams to manage work seamlessly and scale solutions smarter. Now, in our most ambitious chapter yet, we are uniting human teams with AI agents. By orchestrating the work agents do best, automating manual tasks and uncovering insights at scale, we create the space for people to focus on what truly matters: judgment, creativity, and big thinking. That is magic at work, and it’s what we show up for every day.

We are looking for an experienced Principal Product Manager to join our Product Organization at Smartsheet. In this role, you will own the intersection of AI-powered creation and product-led growth, driving investments that help customers get to value faster through intelligent content generation, AI-assisted onboarding, and self-serve activation. You will be accountable for setting strategy and making high-impact investments in areas of high ambiguity, aligned to customer demands and business goals.

You will report into a leader in Product Management, and can be based in our Bellevue, WA office or work remotely from anywhere in the US where Smartsheet is a registered employer.

You Will:

  • Own the AI creation product surface: drive AI-powered asset generation, intelligent template recommendations, and the overall experience that turns a blank canvas into a working solution
  • Define and drive the activation strategy: set the vision for how AI reduces time-to-value for new and expanding users, with a clear north star metric and a roadmap to move it
  • Improve AI output quality: define standards for AI-generated content in Smartsheet, and work with engineering and design to improve the accuracy and usefulness of outputs over time
  • Build the PLG feedback loop: optimize creation flows to understand what drives users to their “aha moment,” use that signal to iterate fast, and turn activation wins into expansion
  • Partner deeply across the org: work with engineering, design, data science, and platform teams to ship capabilities that are both technically excellent and delightful to use
  • Set the bar for quality and craft: define what “great” looks like for AI-generated content in Smartsheet and hold the team accountable to it
  • Communicate with influence: distill complex AI and growth dynamics into crisp strategy narratives for executives, GTM partners, and the broader product org

You Have:

  • 8-10+ years of product management experience, with at least 2 years owning AI/ML-powered product experiences
  • Proven PLG instincts: you’ve owned activation, onboarding, or self-serve growth metrics and know how to move them
  • Deep curiosity about AI: you understand how generative AI and LLMs work well enough to push the boundaries of what’s possible and have productive debates with engineers
  • A track record of shipping: you’ve taken complex, ambiguous AI or growth initiatives from 0 to 1 and scaled them
  • Data fluency: you’re comfortable defining success metrics, designing experiments, and making judgment calls when the data is incomplete
  • Enterprise product sensibility: you understand the unique constraints of building for enterprise buyers while optimizing for end-user delight
  • Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and visual; you can sell a vision and sweat the details

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with content generation, document intelligence, or AI-assisted creation products
  • Background in template ecosystems, marketplaces, or recommendation systems
  • Familiarity with onboarding funnel analytics tools (e.g., Amplitude, Mixpanel)
