Sample interview questions
How would you approach developing a struggling Account Manager who consistently misses quota?

I would start by diagnosing the root cause through pipeline review, call shadowing, and skill assessment. Then I would create a structured improvement plan with specific, measurable goals, regular coaching sessions, and role-play exercises. I would also ensure they have the right sales tools and support, and set clear checkpoints to track progress. If no improvement occurs after a defined period, I would consider reassignment or other consequences.

Describe a time you had to lead your team through a significant organizational change. How did you maintain morale and performance?

During a major CRM migration, I communicated transparently about the reasons and benefits, provided extensive training, and involved the team in the rollout plan. I maintained morale by celebrating quick wins and being patient with the learning curve. I also kept a strong focus on core activities by temporarily reducing non-essential tasks, which allowed the team to adapt without sacrificing quota.

How do you forecast revenue accurately in a large account management portfolio?

I use a bottom-up approach by reviewing each account's opportunity pipeline, historical renewal rates, and expansion potential. I hold regular forecast review meetings with the team to validate deals and assess risks. I also rely on data from Salesforce and track leading indicators like engagement and product usage. This allows me to provide a realistic forecast with clear assumptions and upside/downside scenarios.

How would you balance the need to grow existing accounts with the need to retain them?

I believe retention is the foundation for growth. I would ensure that our team is aligned on customer health scores and proactive outreach. Growth comes from identifying expansion opportunities within accounts that are already successful. I would work with the team to segment accounts based on potential and risk, and tailor strategies accordingly—such as strategic account planning for key accounts and health-focused playbooks for at-risk ones.

What experience do you have working with cross-functional teams like Product and Customer Success to drive account expansion?

In my previous role, I established a regular cross-functional meeting with Customer Success, Product, and Marketing to align on customer feedback and expansion opportunities. I also created a shared dashboard to track product adoption and customer health. This collaboration helped us identify at-risk accounts early and develop tailored solutions that led to a 20% increase in upsell revenue.

You’ll lead a high-performing team of Senior Account Managers responsible for growing and retaining our Mid-Market and Enterprise customer base across EMEA. You’ll own the daily operating rhythm of the business—forecasting, coaching, deal strategy, and execution—while creating an environment where people are challenged, supported, and inspired to do their best work.

Success in this role requires more than commercial excellence. We’re looking for a leader who develops people, builds strong cross-functional partnerships, and creates momentum during periods of change. You recognize problems quickly—but more importantly, you help teams solve them.

  • Strong experience in Account Management or Existing Business leadership, ideally within Mid-Market and Enterprise segments.
  • Experience leading quota-carrying sales teams with responsibility for forecasting, pipeline management, performance coaching, and revenue attainment.
  • Proven ability to develop high-performing Account Managers through coaching, feedback, and structured development.
  • Comfortable operating as a hands-on leader—jumping into strategic customer conversations, negotiations, and deal coaching when needed.
  • Strong forecasting discipline with the ability to identify risks, opportunities, and trends early through data.
  • Experience defining, measuring, and presenting sales metrics and business performance to senior leadership.
  • Proven track record of driving pipeline rigor, operational excellence, and predictable revenue outcomes.
  • Experience with Salesforce and modern sales technology.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • A genuine coaching mindset with a passion for helping others grow and succeed.
  • Builds trust quickly and develops strong partnerships across Product, RevOps, Customer Success, Acquisition Sales, Marketing, Finance, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and leading confidently through change, helping others stay focused on execution rather than uncertainty.
  • Naturally optimistic and solutions-oriented. You raise risks thoughtfully, challenge ideas constructively, and instinctively pair problems with practical solutions.
  • Creates positive energy within teams. You elevate the people around you through collaboration, accountability, and encouragement.
  • Takes ownership beyond your immediate team, proactively identifying opportunities to improve how the broader organization operates.
  • Celebrates team success over individual recognition and contributes positively to the broader leadership team.
  • Consistently delivers strong business outcomes while building a healthy, sustainable, and high-performing team culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operating rhythm of the Account Management team through effective pipeline reviews, forecast calls, one-on-ones, deal coaching, and performance management.
  • Meet and exceed team revenue goals while developing a high-performing organization capable of sustained success.
  • Coach and empower Senior Account Managers to maximize customer value, improve commercial execution, and grow in their careers.
  • Stay close to the business by supporting strategic negotiations, joining key customer conversations, and helping remove obstacles that accelerate deals.
  • Build a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement where high standards and strong support coexist.
  • Foster a solutions-first mindset by helping the team confront difficult challenges honestly, identify practical paths forward, and execute with urgency.
  • Identify opportunities to improve sales processes, operational efficiency, and customer outcomes across the broader Existing Business organization.
  • Build trusted partnerships with Product, RevOps, Customer Success, Finance, Marketing, and Acquisition Sales to improve customer experience and business performance.
  • Ensure consistent forecasting accuracy, pipeline hygiene, account prioritization, and sales execution across the team.
  • Regularly analyze business performance to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and actionable insights for senior leadership.
  • Provide weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting on pipeline health, forecast accuracy, customer expansion, wins, losses, and business performance.
  • Develop a team culture where collaboration, curiosity, resilience, and continuous learning are expected and celebrated.
  • Act as a role model for Remote’s values by creating alignment, building trust, and helping the broader organization succeed—not just your own team.
