Cover letter sample
Dear Socket Hiring Team,
I am excited to apply for the Sr. Software Engineer role because it combines high-ownership product engineering with a mission to make open-source software safer and easier to manage. My experience building production web applications, designing APIs, and working across React, TypeScript, Node.js, and relational data systems would allow me to contribute quickly to Socket's platform.
I am particularly drawn to the opportunity to simplify complex workflows through close collaboration with design while helping shape durable engineering foundations in an early-stage environment. I would welcome the opportunity to bring a customer-focused, pragmatic approach to Socket and help the team ship impactful features quickly.
Sincerely,
Your Name
Sample interview questions
I would outline the user problem, system boundaries, frontend and backend architecture, data model, deployment approach, and the tradeoffs behind each decision. I would also quantify outcomes such as reliability, adoption, latency, or delivery speed and explain what I would improve next.
I would begin with a stable internal domain model and isolate each external integration behind an adapter. I would address authentication, rate limits, retries, idempotency, pagination, validation, observability, caching, and clear failure behavior so downstream product surfaces remain reliable.
I would explain how I clarified the user outcome, identified the smallest viable scope, documented assumptions, and aligned stakeholders on tradeoffs. I would then describe how I released incrementally, monitored feedback and quality signals, and iterated based on evidence.
I involve design early to understand user goals, edge cases, and terminology rather than treating mockups as final specifications. I use prototypes and shared acceptance criteria, surface technical constraints early, and validate the implementation with usability feedback and instrumentation.
I would prioritize lightweight practices with immediate leverage: clear ownership, consistent code review, automated tests for critical paths, CI/CD, monitoring, incident learning, and concise architecture records. I would avoid overengineering and evolve standards as the product, team, and operational risks grow.
