Sample interview questions
I begin with a detailed audit calendar, ownership matrix, and early alignment with external auditors on materiality, deliverables, and key risk areas. I coordinate account reconciliations, supporting schedules, financial statements, and management responses, while escalating open issues early. This structured approach improves audit readiness and helps ensure filings are completed on time.
I maintain clear accounting position papers and mapping between local statutory ledgers and group reporting requirements. I identify material differences early, document judgments with appropriate support, and work with controllership and external advisers when needed. Consistent reconciliations and review controls are essential to producing reliable local and consolidated reporting.
I start by assessing the process risks, control objectives, evidence requirements, and ownership for each key process. I then design practical controls that are embedded in normal workflows, test their operation, remediate gaps, and monitor recurring issues. I focus on controls that reduce fraud and reporting risk without creating unnecessary operational burden.
I use a close checklist with clear deadlines, accountable owners, dependency tracking, and regular status reviews. I prioritize high-risk balances, reconcile significant accounts early, and establish escalation paths for unresolved issues. After close, I review variances and root causes to improve the next cycle.
Automation can improve reconciliations, journal-entry support, close-status reporting, document collection, and exception monitoring. I would first target high-volume, repeatable tasks with strong controls and measurable error rates, while retaining appropriate human review for accounting judgments. Any AI-enabled process should have clear governance, audit trails, data-quality checks, and segregation of duties.
