Sample interview questions
How would you design a scalable document-processing workflow for a cloud-based legal platform?

I would separate ingestion, metadata extraction, indexing, and notification into independently scalable services connected through durable event streams or queues. Each stage would be idempotent, observable, and protected by retry and dead-letter handling, while authorization checks and audit logging would be enforced throughout the workflow.

Describe how you would structure a React and Node.js application to keep it maintainable as the product grows.

I would establish clear domain boundaries, typed API contracts, reusable UI components, and a service layer that isolates business logic from transport concerns. Automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, consistent linting, code review standards, and incremental documentation would keep the system understandable and safe to evolve.

When would you choose GraphQL over REST for a product feature?

I would use GraphQL when multiple clients need flexible, efficient access to related data and the domain benefits from a strongly typed schema. I would use REST for simpler resource-oriented operations, external integrations, or cases where straightforward caching and operational conventions are more important than query flexibility.

How do you approach diagnosing a production performance regression?

I start by confirming the user impact and reviewing metrics, traces, logs, deployment changes, and error patterns to identify the affected path. I then form and test hypotheses, mitigate risk through rollback, feature flags, or capacity changes where needed, and document the root cause and preventive actions after resolution.

How would you evaluate an AI-powered service or agentic development tool before introducing it into an enterprise product?

I would assess its security model, data handling, permission boundaries, reliability, cost, observability, and compliance implications before running a limited, measurable pilot. Adoption should be based on demonstrated developer or customer value, with human review, auditability, and fallback behavior for high-impact workflows.
