Sample interview questions
Describe an AI-enabled finance workflow you built and how you measured its impact.

I would explain the business problem, the source systems and controls involved, the automation architecture, and how exceptions were handled. I would quantify results using measures such as cycle-time reduction, error-rate improvement, hours saved, and improved forecast or close timeliness.

How would you automate monthly variance analysis while keeping the output reliable and auditable?

I would connect governed actuals, budget, and forecast data; standardize account mappings and variance thresholds; and use an LLM only for contextual narrative generation. I would retain source links, calculation logic, version history, approval steps, and exception queues so finance can validate every conclusion.

What is your approach to prioritizing automation opportunities in a lean finance team?

I would rank opportunities by manual effort, control risk, decision impact, data readiness, and implementation complexity. I would deliver quick, low-risk wins first while maintaining a roadmap for higher-leverage cross-system workflows.

How do you ensure AI agents interacting with ERP, HRIS, and CRM data follow appropriate financial controls?

I would apply least-privilege access, segregate read and write permissions, log all actions, require approvals for material changes, and test workflows in a controlled environment before production release. I would also define fallbacks and human review for unusual transactions or low-confidence outputs.

How would you manage tax deadlines and workpapers across multiple jurisdictions?

I would build a centralized compliance calendar tied to entity, jurisdiction, filing type, owner, and evidence requirements. Automated reminders, data collection, status reporting, and documented review checkpoints would keep workpapers current while escalating missed dependencies early.

About the Team and Role:

Quora’s Finance team owns FP&A, accounting and tax for Quora and Poe. We are a small, flat, lean team that is actively rebuilding how a finance function operates with AI at the center, and this role is central to that mission.

This is not a traditional finance seat. As our AI Financial Operations hire, the defining skill is the ability to build with AI — agents, LLM-powered workflows, and automations that run real financial processes in production. You will continue and expand the automation of FP&A, tax, and general finance operations, operating and improving the existing automation estate while shipping new AI systems that expand what the function can do. This role offers high autonomy in a remote-first setup, there is no defined ceiling on this role: everything you automate compounds, and scope expands exactly as fast as you can build.

Responsibilities:

  • Build, run, and continuously improve AI-driven automation across the FP&A function — forecasting, budgeting, management reporting, variance analysis, and month-end close workflows

  • Own the operational side of tax — monitor obligations and deadlines, keep schedules and workpapers current, and build automation that makes compliance continuous

  • Connect ERP, spend management, equity, HRIS, and CRM systems with AI agents, integrations, and scripts — systematically eliminating manual, repetitive finance processes

  • Design and ship new automations and AI systems that expand what the finance function can do — building is core to this role, not just maintaining what exists

  • Document what you build, keep it reliable and auditable, and help raise the AI capability of the broader finance team

Minimum Requirements:

  • Availability for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora’s “coordination hours” (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance or equivalent required

  • 5+ years of corporate finance / FP&A experience — forecasting, budgeting, management reporting, and month-end close mechanics

  • Demonstrated, hands-on ability to build with AI tooling – agents, LLM-powered workflows, and automations that run real processes in production, not just familiarity with chat tools

  • Strong financial modeling and spreadsheet craft

  • Self-starter with a strong action bias, able to operate with high autonomy and minimal hand-holding in a lean, remote-first team

Preferred Requirements:

  • Corporate finance experience at a technology company

  • Experience with Claude, Claude Code, and MCP integrations

  • Familiar with tools such as NetSuite, Ramp, Carta, BambooHR, Salesforce, and Google Workspace; specific systems are learnable

  • Experienced working across ERP, spend management, equity, HRIS, CRM, and data warehouse environments
