Sample interview questions
I establish a detailed close calendar with clear owners, dependencies, review checkpoints, and escalation paths. I monitor completion of reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and variance analyses, then hold focused review sessions to resolve material issues before reporting deadlines.
I first confirm that both entities are using the same transaction population, currency treatment, accounting period, and supporting documents. I then identify timing, FX, coding, or process causes, coordinate the required corrections with both teams, and implement a preventive control or standardized process where recurring issues exist.
I assess the facts, identify the relevant IFRS guidance and company policy, document the accounting conclusion and alternatives considered, and involve technical accounting, auditors, or legal and tax partners when needed. I also ensure the conclusion is translated into consistent journal-entry, disclosure, and control requirements.
I would perform a gap assessment covering chart of accounts, close procedures, accounting policies, systems, controls, reconciliations, statutory requirements, and reporting timelines. From there, I would create a phased integration plan, assign accountable owners, provide training, and track readiness through the first several close cycles.
I set clear quality standards, use structured reviews and timely feedback, and match development assignments to each person’s capability and goals. During close, I balance coaching with risk-based review so team members build ownership while material judgments and high-risk accounts receive appropriate oversight.

TO FEEL AT HOME 🛋️ IN SHOPFULLY YOU NEED 🎯
- Progress Over Perfection: We move forward. Always. In a fast-moving world, speed with purpose beats certainty without action. Momentum matters—not for its own sake, but because it drives results.
- Clarity Through Transparency: We bring each other along. We work in teams, not silos. Transparency gives context, and context enables action. That means we share decisions early, publish work in progress, and document outcomes so others can learn, move faster, and build better.
- Learn Loudly: We grow by doing and by daring. Big bets unlock big breakthroughs. But real innovation demands risk, and risk always carries the possibility of failure. That’s not a flaw. It’s the price of ambition.
- Challenge with Empathy: We speak up, even when it’s hard—because candor shows care, and leads to better outcomes. Listening deeply is how we grow. Disagreeing openly is how we build trust.
Always Build Better: We are builders—of products, systems, and ideas. But more than that, we are builders of better. Better has no finish line. It’s a mindset.
