Sample interview questions
How would you define and measure customer security outcomes for a managed security operations portfolio?

I would begin with customer interviews, operational telemetry, incident reviews, and market benchmarks to identify the outcomes customers value most. I would establish a concise outcome framework using measures such as mean time to detect and respond, investigation quality, risk reduction, coverage, false-positive reduction, and customer confidence. Each roadmap initiative would be tied to a baseline, target metric, and accountable operational owner.

Describe how you would build a product strategy for managed detection and response services.

I would assess customer segments, threat trends, service delivery constraints, competitive differentiation, and the existing product platform. From there, I would define a multi-horizon strategy covering immediate operational improvements, platform capabilities such as automation and integrations, and differentiated AI-enabled experiences. I would validate priorities through customer advisory boards and use measurable adoption and outcome data to refine the roadmap.

How would you use generative AI in security operations without undermining customer trust or analyst quality?

I would focus first on bounded, high-value workflows such as incident summarization, case enrichment, investigation guidance, and knowledge retrieval. Controls would include human review for consequential actions, clear confidence indicators, secure data handling, evaluation against real SOC scenarios, and continuous monitoring for accuracy and bias. The goal is to augment analysts and improve speed and consistency, not to create opaque automation.

Tell us about your approach to handling a critical customer escalation involving a security incident.

I would quickly establish facts, business impact, ownership, communication cadence, and an incident command structure. I would ensure the customer receives clear, honest updates that distinguish confirmed information from ongoing investigation, while coordinating security operations, engineering, support, and executive stakeholders. After resolution, I would lead a post-incident review that converts lessons into product, process, and service-delivery improvements.

How do you influence engineering and operations teams when you do not directly manage them?

I build alignment around a shared customer problem, evidence-based priorities, and clearly defined success measures. I involve partners early in discovery, make trade-offs transparent, and connect roadmap decisions to both customer impact and operational feasibility. Consistent follow-through, direct communication, and recognition of each team's constraints help create durable trust and accountability.
