Testlio is seeking a senior Payments Solutions Architect to shape and deliver payments-testing services for enterprise clients. The role combines payments-domain architecture, quality engineering, client consulting, service-offering design, and sales support. The successful candidate will troubleshoot complex transaction integrations across mobile payments, online banking, wallets, payment gateways, and POS systems. It requires more than 10 years of payments experience and the ability to lead distributed teams and communicate credibly with both technical and executive stakeholders. This is a fully remote role open to candidates in the Eastern United States or the EMEA region.

Sample interview questions
I would first map the end-to-end payment lifecycle, including authorization, authentication, capture, settlement, refunds, disputes, and reconciliation. I would identify interfaces, data dependencies, regional rules, failure modes, and security requirements, then define risk-based API, integration, functional, performance, and exploratory test coverage with measurable release criteria.
I would correlate failed transactions with gateway responses, payment method, issuer, currency, device, application version, and regional configuration. I would validate observability and trace IDs across the client, orchestration layer, gateway, and downstream services, reproduce the behavior using representative test accounts, and isolate whether the cause is configuration, network behavior, provider rules, data handling, or application logic.
I define offerings around clear customer outcomes, reusable methodologies, staffing models, scope boundaries, and measurable value while preserving flexibility for high-risk client needs. Cost-to-serve, delivery feasibility, and quality controls should be considered early so the service is both commercially viable and technically credible.
Key risks include incorrect authorization or settlement behavior, duplicate or lost transactions, inaccurate currency and tax handling, fraud-control failures, sensitive-data exposure, weak authentication flows, and inconsistent regional payment-method behavior. I prioritize controls aligned with applicable requirements such as PCI DSS, privacy obligations, strong customer authentication expectations, and partner-specific certification rules.
I would frame the issue in business terms first: customer impact, financial exposure, regulatory or reputational risk, likelihood, and urgency. I would then present concise evidence, explain the root cause at the appropriate level, offer practical mitigation options with trade-offs, and recommend a prioritized decision and delivery plan.

What would your day look like?
Strategic & Commercial Responsibilities
- Vision Activation & Marketing: Imagine, drive, evangelize, and activate a viewpoint on the future of Payments Testing. Produce white papers, articles, posts, speeches, and webinars.
- Ecosystem & Alliances Support: Collaborate with the Testlio VP, Alliances and external software partners to identify and execute joint GTM offerings with payments and commerce consultancies.
- Sales Collaboration: Engage with enterprise-class prospects in partnership with Testlio Sales. Provide authentic and clear guidance on effective Payments Testing strategies, tactics, and ROI.
- Offering Lifecycle Management: Launch, evolve, and refine payments services, based on market and competitive intelligence.
Collaboration on Hands-on Delivery
- Architectural Design: Dive deep into client digital transaction architectures to design bespoke, highly technical quality engineering methodologies for agentic payments, mobile payments, wallets, and POS systems.
- Delivery Expertise: Act as an escalation point and subject-matter expert for Delivery, stepping in hands-on from scoping to test execution review on complex or strategic payments engagements.
- Technical Problem Solving: Solve technical roadblocks in payments quality engineering, ensuring transaction integrity, security, and compliance across different global regions and instruments.

What do you need to succeed?
Technical Skills
- Deep Payments Experience: 10+ years of deep experience with digital payment systems, including mobile payments, online banking, payment gateways, wallets, and point-of-sale systems.
- Quality Engineering Affinity: Strong technical affinity for quality engineering, API integrations, and world-class software development methodologies within the financial sector.
- Hands-on Troubleshooting: Demonstrated ability to dive into the technical architecture, troubleshoot payment integrations, and design structured evaluation criteria for complex transaction flows.
- Education: Master’s degree in Finance, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Human Skills
- Proven Client-Facing Experience: Strong management consulting or managed services background with a client-centric mindset and ability to lead technical discovery.
- Commercial & Strategic Acumen: Experience designing service offerings, understanding cost-to-serve dynamics, and collaborating cross-functionally across sales and partners.
