Sample interview questions
How would you approach testing a new feature when requirements are incomplete or changing?

I would clarify the highest-risk workflows with the product owner and developers, identify assumptions, and create a lightweight test plan covering core functionality, error handling, and regression impact. I would document open questions and update tests as requirements become clearer.

What makes a test case effective?

An effective test case has a clear objective, defined preconditions, repeatable steps, expected results, and relevant test data. It should validate a meaningful requirement or risk and be easy for another tester to execute and understand.

When would you choose manual testing instead of automation?

I would use manual testing for exploratory work, new or frequently changing user interfaces, usability checks, and one-time validations. I would prioritize automation for stable, repeatable, high-value regression scenarios that run often.

Describe how you would investigate a failed automated test in CI/CD.

I would first review the failure logs, screenshots, and recent code or environment changes to determine whether the issue is in the application, test, test data, or infrastructure. I would reproduce it locally where possible, isolate the root cause, and communicate a concise finding with the appropriate team members.

How do you communicate a software defect to developers?

I provide a clear title, environment details, reproducible steps, expected and actual behavior, severity or user impact, and supporting evidence such as logs or screenshots. I remain collaborative and focus on shared understanding rather than assigning blame.
