Sample interview questions
I would first identify the user outcome, business constraints, and critical unknowns with stakeholders. Then I would propose a thin vertical slice covering the data model, API contract, UI state, and observability, validate assumptions through a prototype where needed, and document trade-offs before scaling the implementation.
I define shared domain models and validate runtime inputs at service boundaries using a schema-validation approach. API contracts are versioned and tested, while generated or shared types help ensure frontend consumers remain aligned with backend responses without relying only on compile-time assumptions.
I would measure first using browser performance tools, Core Web Vitals, server traces, and database metrics to locate the limiting layer. Depending on the findings, I might reduce client bundle size, optimize rendering and image delivery, cache at the appropriate edge or data layer, eliminate request waterfalls, or improve slow queries with indexing and query changes.
I start with semantic HTML, keyboard behavior, responsive layout, and accessible contrast as non-negotiable foundations. I partner with design early to identify reusable patterns, implement them as documented components, and use automated and manual accessibility checks so visual fidelity does not create barriers or one-off maintenance costs.
I look for recurring friction in areas such as local setup, testing, component reuse, build performance, content modeling, and release workflows. I quantify the problem, introduce a practical improvement with team input, document adoption guidance, and measure whether it reduces cycle time or defects for other engineers.

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer at Fueled, you will architect, build, and scale high-performance web applications from the database layer through to the browser. You’ll own end-to-end solutions across the entire stack, designing API contracts and data models in TypeScript and building performant frontends in React and Next.js, all while ensuring every layer works cohesively to deliver premium user experiences. Type safety runs through your work on both sides of the wire, giving you confidence to evolve complex, business-oriented systems without fear.
You’ll model relational and non-relational data, craft pixel-perfect accessible interfaces that perform under real-world conditions, and implement effective caching strategies at the edge. Whether you’re optimizing a database query, shaping a REST API, or fine-tuning a front-end bundle, you move fluently across the stack. Your work turns ambitious ideas into maintainable, future-ready systems that evolve with client needs, raise the bar for quality and performance, and consistently drive measurable outcomes.
Depending on your experience and project alignment, your work may lean more heavily into either Fueled’s Content Solutions or Digital Product practice. On the Content Solutions side, you may focus on headless CMS architecture, enterprise publishing platforms, performance optimization, design systems, accessibility, and SEO-focused front-end experiences. Within Digital Product, your work may center around complex web applications, stateful front-end systems, API and backend architecture, real-time functionality, and end-to-end product feature development across web and mobile ecosystems. Regardless of focus area, engineers at Fueled are expected to move fluidly across the stack and contribute to thoughtful, scalable user experiences.

What you will do:
- Own the end-to-end delivery of key product features, from concept to deployment and beyond. You won’t just code tickets; you’ll be a crucial voice in shaping the technical approach, making critical architectural decisions, and ensuring what we ship is robust, scalable, and maintainable.
- Architect and build dynamic web experiences that hold up under the demands of real users and real editorial teams, working across the stack to make the right call at every layer.
- Elevate the team’s velocity and craft by introducing and socializing tools and practices that raise the technical bar. We expect you to proactively identify bottlenecks, whether in build processes, state management, content modeling, or anywhere else, and implement solutions that make the entire team more effective.
- Bridge the gap between ambitious creative vision and technical reality, proving that high-quality user experience and developer experience are not mutually exclusive. You’ll collaborate directly with designers and strategists to challenge assumptions, explore what’s possible, and build solutions that are as elegant under the hood as they are for the end-user.
