Sample interview questions
I would begin with customer and market segmentation, identifying the shared strategic outcome the portfolio enables and the differentiated jobs each product solves. I would establish a clear umbrella narrative, then develop product-level messaging architectures, proof points, and audience-specific value propositions. I would validate the framework through customer conversations, win/loss evidence, and field feedback before operationalizing it across launches, sales enablement, web, and campaigns.
I start by aligning Product, Engineering, Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing on the target audience, customer problem, differentiated value, launch objective, and measurable success criteria. I then build the messaging, proof, enablement, content, and adoption plan, with clear owners and decision points. After launch, I monitor pipeline, adoption, conversion, qualitative feedback, and competitive response, using the findings to improve both the product story and launch playbook.
I would define where AI can improve insight generation, competitive monitoring, content iteration, customer research synthesis, and campaign personalization while retaining strong human judgment for strategy and quality. The team would have shared workflows, governed data sources, clear review standards, and measurable productivity and impact goals. I would also invest in developing PMMs who can understand AI products deeply and communicate their practical business value without overstating capabilities.
I use a layered messaging model anchored in a common customer outcome but tailored to each audience's priorities. Engineers need credible technical detail, integration clarity, and workflow benefits; product leaders need faster learning and better decisions; executives need strategic impact, efficiency, and growth outcomes. Customer evidence, demonstrations, and role-specific proof points ensure the story remains concrete and credible.
In ambiguous environments, I establish a working point of view rather than waiting for perfect information. I rapidly synthesize customer research, market signals, product direction, and field input into a testable narrative and GTM hypothesis. I communicate assumptions and decision criteria clearly, run focused validation, and update the plan quickly as evidence emerges.

About The Role & Team
We’re looking for a Head of Product Marketing to define how Amplitude brings its multi-product portfolio to market. You’ll shape the narrative across our analytics platform, Statsig, and our proactive Agents—creating a clear, differentiated story while helping each product win with its target audience.
This is a player-coach role. You’ll set the strategy and operating model for Product Marketing while staying close to the work: shaping positioning, leading major launches, co-building AI loops to deliver customer and competitive insights, and partnering with Product, Engineering, Sales, and Marketing.
You’ll join at an important moment for the portfolio, as Amplitude expands beyond analytics and into experimentation to support the future of product development and iteration. If you’re excited by the opportunity to shape the story and market, build the team, and build an AI native PMM org, you’ll feel right at home.
As a Head of Product Marketing, you will:
- Define Amplitude’s product narrative and positioning: Own the overarching product marketing strategy and point of view across our multi-product portfolio, including analytics, Statsig, and proactive agents. Develop a differentiated point of view and way to bring the company’s worldview to life, staying close to how teams at all stages of maturity curve are building.
- Lead GTM strategy for major products and launches: Partner with Product and Engineering to bring new products and capabilities to market—from positioning and messaging to launch strategy, enablement, customer proof, and adoption. Set a creative approach that caters to the audience, market, and maturity of each product.
- Build and coach a high-performing AI native PMM function: Set the team’s priorities, operating cadence, and bar for quality while developing PMMs into stronger strategists and storytellers.
- Turn customer and market insight into strategy: Develop a deep understanding of our customers, competitors, and market dynamics. Bring those insights back to Product, Engineering, and GTM to influence the product and experiments.
You’ll be a great addition to the team if you have:
- You’re a player-coach by nature—you can set strategy and lead a team, but you’re equally comfortable writing the positioning, building the narrative, jumping into a customer conversation, or helping shape a demo.
- You have an AI-native mindset and a point of view on how AI is changing products. You build yourself and have a vision for how PMM should be structured around AI.
- You’re an exceptional multi-audience storyteller. You can make a complex technical product compelling to an engineer, useful to a product leader, and strategically important to an executive.
- You are high agency. You don’t wait for the perfect brief or a fully formed playbook; you push your team to make the first draft, test it with customers, learn quickly, and keep improving.
- You thrive in ambiguity and change. You’re comfortable operating at the intersection of Product, Engineering, Sales, and Marketing, and you know how to create clarity when the product and market are still evolving.
At a minimum, you need to have:
- 10+ years of product marketing experience, including significant experience leading product marketing strategy for technical, enterprise, SaaS, developer, data, or AI/ML products.
- Experience leading and developing a product marketing team, while maintaining a strong track record as a hands-on individual contributor.
- Demonstrated success defining product positioning, messaging, GTM strategy, and major product launches across a multi-product portfolio in complex or rapidly evolving markets.
- Experience partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Sales, Customer Success, and executive leadership to drive cross-functional alignment and business outcomes.
- Strong technical product marketing experience, with the ability to quickly understand complex systems (data, analytics, AI/ML, or developer platforms), build credibility with engineering teams, and translate technical capabilities into clear, differentiated market narratives.
