Sample interview questions
I would first establish business impact, affected workflows, timing, and severity with the customer. I would gather platform telemetry, infrastructure metrics, job logs, and recent configuration or workload changes, then isolate likely bottlenecks across compute, storage, networking, Kubernetes, and Spark where applicable. I would communicate a clear incident plan, provide regular status updates, implement mitigation steps, and document the root cause and preventative actions after resolution.
I would begin with the customer's identity, network, data-governance, and regulatory requirements. I would validate authentication and authorization integration such as LDAP, Active Directory, Kerberos, or IAM; review least-privilege access, secrets management, encryption, audit logging, network segmentation, and connectivity to data platforms. I would then document architecture decisions, operational ownership, upgrade procedures, and controls needed to sustain the environment.
I separate the technical workstream from the executive communication cadence while keeping both tightly connected. For technical teams, I provide detailed hypotheses, diagnostic actions, owners, and timelines; for leaders, I summarize business impact, risk, decisions needed, and progress in clear non-technical language. This approach demonstrates control of the issue without overwhelming stakeholders with unnecessary implementation detail.
I would assess cluster capacity, node health, pod events, resource requests and limits, autoscaling behavior, persistent storage, networking, ingress, and application logs. I would also check for recent image, configuration, policy, or deployment changes and confirm that observability data supports the suspected failure mode. After stabilizing the service, I would recommend durable improvements such as right-sizing, health probes, alerting, capacity planning, or deployment safeguards.
I would align on the customer's business objectives, target use cases, technical maturity, stakeholders, success measures, and implementation constraints. From there, I would define phased milestones covering architecture validation, deployment, enablement, adoption, operational readiness, and expansion opportunities, with clear owners and risk tracking. I would review the plan regularly with the CSM and customer, adjusting priorities as outcomes and technical conditions evolve.
