I would explain the user problem, the hypotheses behind using AI, and how I partnered with engineering and design to define a safe, usable solution. I would share launch metrics such as adoption, task completion, efficiency gains, retention, or quality improvements, plus the iterations made from user feedback and data.
I create a transparent prioritization framework that weighs strategic alignment, customer impact, expected business value, effort, risk, and confidence in the evidence. I communicate trade-offs early, align stakeholders on the decision criteria, and revisit priorities as new information emerges.
I would begin with a specific user workflow and pain point rather than the technology itself. I would define the desired outcome, prototype the simplest useful experience, establish quality and trust requirements, and work with technical partners to validate feasibility, evaluation metrics, and operational safeguards.
I would describe the original assumption, the research or behavioral data that challenged it, and the decision process used to revise the roadmap. A strong example would quantify the evidence, explain stakeholder communication, and show how the change improved customer or business outcomes.
I set a clear product outcome, maintain a well-refined backlog with unambiguous acceptance criteria, and make risks and decisions visible through consistent written communication. I also use regular planning, demos, retrospectives, and outcome reviews to preserve alignment while giving the team autonomy in execution.

Are you a customer-centric Senior Product Manager with a proven track record of taking ownership and delivering results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment? We’re looking for a self-starting Senior Product Manager to drive innovation at Toptal by building and scaling AI-driven products that expand the breadth and depth of our product and service offering.
As a Senior Product Manager, you will lead a team of engineers while working cross-functionally with Engineering, Design, and other Product Managers to define, build, and launch mission-critical initiatives built on Toptal’s AI platform. We need someone to drive end-to-end product discovery and delivery, using user research, data, and cross-functional collaboration to identify new opportunities and deliver impactful solutions. Responsibilities:

- Own and lead all aspects of an established agile team, including backlog grooming, prioritization, and cross-functional coordination, with a focus on delivering AI-driven product capabilities.
- Translate AI platform capabilities into customer-facing, talent-facing, and internal product experiences that deliver measurable business value.
- Responsible for defining the scope of new product features and ongoing feature improvements.
- Write and prioritize user stories and define acceptance criteria.
- Establish and maintain a high level of credibility with internal and external partners.
- Break down complex problems and use data, analytics, and user research to inform product direction and validate AI-driven solutions.
- Track progress, assess risks, coordinate delivery, and actively communicate contingency and mitigation plans for the team.
- Run various ad-hoc research and business analyses to assess opportunities and risks.
- Take ownership of identifying and solving complex product challenges that align with both short-term goals and long-term strategic initiatives.
- Apply system-analyst techniques and procedures, including consulting with users to determine hardware, software, or systems functional specifications.
In the first week, expect to:
- Onboard and integrate into Toptal while independently starting to study and learn the Toptal product suite.
- Become acquainted with your product area, the product goals, and those you will partner with.
In the first month, expect to:
- Work cross-functionally and with other Product Managers to organize and prioritize your high-level roadmap and backlog.
- Start collaborating closely with your development team.
- Take over all in-flight and planned initiatives.
In the first three months, expect to:
- Fully support a product category, working collaboratively to complete quarterly planning and set OKRs.
- Exercising discretion and independent judgment, launch features that deliver high business impact.

In the first six months, expect to:
- Work alongside other Product Managers to discover new product opportunities for your backlog.
- Develop a repeatable model for delivering upon our roadmap initiatives.
- Work across the Product team to measure and refine the roadmap, backlog, and processes to make improvements over time.
- Constantly re-evaluate your roadmap’s alignment with the strategic goals of the business, adjusting where necessary.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a technical discipline.
- At least 5 years of proven software product management experience.
- Proven ability to lead products end-to-end from early discovery and zero-to-one development through launch, iteration, and scale, even in ambiguous environments.
- Proven experience managing the development and launch of mobile, desktop, and web applications across the full product lifecycle is a plus.
- Knowledge of AI product development processes and best practices.
- Experience designing and launching AI-powered product features that improved engagement, efficiency, and measurable business outcomes.
- Experience building and orchestrating intelligent workflows by connecting systems and automation tools to solve problems at scale.
- Experience with third-party system integrations is a plus.
- Comfortable working with SQL or spreadsheets to analyze data, as well as conducting research with internal and external users.
- Strong expertise in using data to make decisions with a variety of tools and methodologies to gather and synthesize information.
- Ability to creatively craft solutions through data and a customer-centric approach.
- Ability to build wireframes and mockups, with an aptitude for keeping things simple.
- Be meticulous and have a high bar for quality when writing user stories, reviewing designs, brainstorming technical approaches, and testing a feature before it is released.
