Sample interview questions
How would you approach negotiating a health-plan or EAP partnership agreement for a digital mental-health service?

I would first align with business, product, clinical, privacy, and operations stakeholders on the proposed service model and implementation capabilities. I would then focus the agreement on scope, service levels, data flows, HIPAA obligations, allocation of risk, marketing representations, payment terms, and termination processes, ensuring commitments can be operationalized before execution.

Describe how you provide practical legal advice when business goals and regulatory risk are in tension.

I explain the applicable risk in clear business terms, identify the legal and operational consequences of each option, and recommend a practical path that preserves the commercial objective where possible. I aim to provide decision-ready guidance rather than simply identifying issues, while escalating material risks when appropriate.

What issues would you assess in an influencer or affiliate marketing agreement for a healthcare platform?

I would assess required disclosures, ownership and approval of content, substantiation of health-related claims, FTC endorsement compliance, privacy restrictions, brand-safety provisions, intellectual-property rights, measurement terms, and termination rights. I would also ensure that promotional content does not create unsupported clinical or outcome claims.

How do you ensure contractual commitments are supported by product and operational capabilities?

I involve the relevant product, engineering, security, clinical, and operations teams early in the deal cycle and convert key contract terms into an implementation checklist. Before signing, I validate that service levels, data obligations, integrations, security commitments, and reporting requirements have clear owners and feasible delivery plans.

How have you handled evolving privacy and healthcare regulatory requirements in a fast-moving organization?

I use a risk-based monitoring process to identify material legal developments, translate them into concise operational guidance, and partner with compliance and business owners on implementation. I also maintain reusable playbooks and contract language so the organization can respond consistently and efficiently as requirements change.

As the world’s largest online therapy service, we’ve connected millions of people with a network of more than 30,000 licensed therapists– and we’re not stopping there. As the unmet need for mental health services continues to grow, BetterHelp is committed to being part of the solution.

As Director, Corporate Counsel at BetterHelp, you’ll join a diverse team of clinicians, engineers, product pros, creatives, marketers, and business leaders who share a passion for expanding access to therapy. You’ll have the opportunity to make an immediate impact, grow alongside the business, and do meaningful work alongside people who care deeply about what we’re building together.

What are we looking for?

We’re seeking a business-oriented, proactive, and collaborative attorney to join BetterHelp’s Legal team to support both our BetterHelp Business (B2B) and Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) operations.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the B2B partnership landscape, including employee assistance programs (EAPs), health plans, and enterprise partnerships. You’ll play a key role in structuring, negotiating, and implementing partnership and marketing agreements, ensuring that our B2B offerings and D2C platform work seamlessly together.

This role requires someone who can think strategically about how to operationalize partnerships, translating legal agreements into effective business processes, and who thrives in a cross-functional environment working with sales, product, marketing, and engineering. A background in healthcare or digital health contracting, particularly in models that blend enterprise and consumer delivery, is a plus.

What will you do?

  • Support our B2B team by drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of B2B and enterprise agreements, including Master Services Agreements, Business Associate Agreements, reseller, referral, and vendor agreements.
  • Support and advise on EAP, employer, and health plan partnership arrangements, helping structure offerings that extend BetterHelp’s D2C care model to new populations through enterprise partnerships.
  • Collaborate with marketing, partnerships, product, and business development teams.
  • Negotiate marketing, sponsorship, and affiliate agreements, including campaigns with influencers, content creators, and third-party wellness platforms, ensuring compliance with healthcare and advertising regulations.
  • Partner with sales and operations to design and operationalize new partnership frameworks, ensuring that legal, business, and technical requirements are fully aligned.
  • Work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and compliance teams to ensure contractual commitments are supported by product functionality and service delivery standards.
  • Provide legal guidance on data privacy, information security, and healthcare regulatory compliance, including HIPAA, FTC, and state-specific health and marketing laws.
  • Monitor and interpret evolving laws, regulations, and industry standards impacting digital health, mental health parity, telehealth, and enterprise wellness.

What will you NOT do?

  • You will NOT worry about funding. We have startup energy, with the support and resources of our parent company, Teladoc Health.
  • You will NOT be limited to a narrow set of responsibilities. We encourage employees to contribute ideas, develop new skills, collaborate across teams, and explore opportunities that support both their growth and the growing needs of the business.
  • You will NOT be expected to navigate a culture driven by ego or unnecessary hierarchy. We value respectful collaboration, thoughtful debate, and teammates who are committed to shared success.
  • You will NOT be expected to put your well-being aside to make an impact. We work hard and hold ourselves to high standards, while supporting sustainable ways of working.

Can I work remotely?

Yes. This role can be performed remotely from anywhere in the U.S. While we embrace the flexibility of remote work, we also value opportunities to bring teams together in person for collaboration and connection. BetterHelp covers approved expenses for company-requested travel, and reasonable accommodations are available for employees who are unable to travel.

  • You must be egoless, value collaboration, and be ready to put in the hard work to accomplish whatever the job demands.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills is a must.
  • Ability to provide practical, risk-balanced legal advice in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.
  • Collaborative and adaptable mindset with a focus on enabling business growth while maintaining compliance.
  • Experience working in a hybrid organization offering both D2C and B2B services and/or digital health platform is preferred, but not required.
