Clear interfaces and dependency injection make modules easier to test, replace, and evolve as the application grows.
I use structured concurrency with coroutine scopes tied to lifecycle boundaries, expose UI state through Flow or StateFlow, and handle cancellation deliberately. For concurrent work, I use appropriate dispatchers and error-handling strategies so network, database, and UI operations remain responsive and predictable.
I would rely on automated unit and integration tests, focused code review, CI checks, feature flags, staged rollout controls, and monitoring of crashes and key product metrics. I would also keep changes small and reversible so the team can quickly diagnose and mitigate issues.
I begin by clarifying the user problem, success metrics, edge cases, and technical constraints with stakeholders. I then propose a scoped implementation, share trade-offs early, validate the behavior with design, and use feedback from testing or analytics to refine the feature after release.
I would first understand the service contract, architecture, observability, testing standards, and deployment process. I would take a well-scoped change, collaborate closely with backend engineers, add appropriate tests and documentation, and use the work to build capability without compromising reliability.

About the Role
We’re looking for a Software Engineer II (Android) to join our fast-growing mobile team. This role is open to candidates based within a commutable distance (generally within 1–2 hours) of one of our office hubs in Oxford or London. We embrace flexibility in where and how work gets done and also value meaningful in-person moments to connect and collaborate. You can expect a remote-first working model with periodic in-person gatherings at your closest office for team connection, planning, or other key moments.
Within Tripadvisor Experiences we have a fun and friendly environment where the key objective is getting things done. Working closely alongside product managers and designers, our engineers are part of the full process from software design, to code, to test, to deployment and back again. Most of our engineers release code to production every few days and we have a daily release cycle.
What You’ll Do
At Tripadvisor Experiences, our Engineers are versatile problem-solvers who thrive on a wide range of technical challenges. This is a Android-focused, full-stack role where you’ll primarily work on Android systems, with occasional back-end projects. You don’t need to be an expert with everything — if you’re eager to learn, we’ll support you on the job and help you grow your skills. Our tech stack includes Kotlin, Coroutines, Jetpack Compose, Cursor and GraphQL in a modular layout that follows the clean-architecture concept with MVVM.

Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated ability to use AI tools to improve efficiency, quality, and decision-making in day-to-day work.
- Proven ability to operate effectively with a global-first mindset
- Experience of developing an Android app and familiarity with mobile web and back-end technologies would be beneficial
- At least 3 years’ experience of commercial software development, solving different kinds of technical problems
- Experience with reactive programming in native mobile platforms
- Willingness and ability to take on new technologies
- Ability to break down complex problems into simple solutions
- High quality verbal and written communication skills
