Sample interview questions
I would first validate the source structure, identify mandatory target fields and regulatory requirements, and document field-level transformation rules. I would then build and test the mapping with representative files, including edge cases, before documenting assumptions, validations, and error-handling behavior.
I reproduce the issue using the original input, inspect validation errors and transformation logs, and isolate whether the problem is source-data quality, mapping logic, or target-schema rules. After correcting it, I retest normal and boundary cases and record the root cause and resolution in the ticket.
I translate the applicable country rules into mapping requirements, including mandatory identifiers, tax fields, document types, code lists, and schema validations. I maintain traceable documentation so that regulatory changes can be assessed and implemented efficiently.
A syntactically valid message conforms to its technical schema or EDI grammar. A business-valid message also satisfies business rules, such as required references, permitted code values, tax calculations, and partner-specific requirements.
I provide concise, reproducible technical findings through tickets and documentation, including sample inputs, expected outputs, mapping assumptions, and validation results. This gives customer-facing colleagues and engineers the information needed to communicate clearly and resolve issues quickly.
