Sample interview questions
How would you establish a governance model for an enterprise product catalog spanning accommodations, activities, memberships, mobility, and retail?

I would begin by defining canonical product domains, ownership by business function, required attributes, approval workflows, and lifecycle states. I would document a RACI model, implement validation rules in the PIM, and establish catalog-health KPIs such as completeness, accuracy, timeliness, and localization coverage. Governance would be reviewed regularly with business and technical stakeholders to keep the model aligned with changing commercial needs.

Describe your approach to implementing Akeneo or another PIM platform in a complex commerce environment.

I would start with discovery workshops to inventory source systems, product types, data-quality issues, downstream consumers, and priority use cases. Next, I would define the target taxonomy, attribute model, families, variants, enrichment workflows, permissions, and integration architecture, then deliver the platform in phased releases. Each phase would include migration testing, user training, data-quality monitoring, and measurable adoption criteria.

How would you integrate a PIM with AEM, booking engines, inventory systems, payment platforms, and CRM tools?

I would define a system-of-record matrix and identify which system owns each data element. Using API contracts and event-driven or scheduled synchronization where appropriate, I would map identifiers, validation rules, error handling, retry processes, and monitoring across each integration. I would also ensure that catalog data is published in formats appropriate for AEM experiences, booking flows, search, personalization, and CRM activation.

What techniques would you use to manage product localization across more than eight languages?

I would separate global master attributes from locale-specific content, establish mandatory translation fields by channel and market, and use workflow states to distinguish source, in-progress, reviewed, and published translations. Validation rules would prevent incomplete localized records from publication, while dashboards would show translation completeness and stale-content risk. I would also involve regional content owners to ensure terminology and cultural relevance are maintained.

How do you balance a flexible product data model with the need for strict data quality and reporting consistency?

I use a governed core model with mandatory shared attributes and controlled vocabularies, supplemented by category-specific attributes for unique product needs. This allows business lines to represent complex offerings without fragmenting enterprise reporting. I would enforce standards through schema governance, reference data management, validation rules, and a formal change-control process for new attributes or taxonomies.
