Sample interview questions
I would begin by confirming the business outcomes, such as improving authorization rates, reducing integration effort, or expanding into new markets. I would map the current payment stack, transaction flows, gateways, fraud tools, data requirements, security constraints, and implementation stakeholders. I would then summarize the requirements, identify risks and open questions, and align the next technical validation step to a measurable success criterion.
I would describe APIs as the structured way two systems request and exchange information, such as submitting a payment or retrieving a transaction status. I would explain webhooks as automated notifications sent when an event occurs, avoiding the need for a system to repeatedly ask for updates. I would use the stakeholder's workflow to connect these concepts to faster integrations, reliable status updates, and lower operational effort.
I would document the current-state architecture, target integration design, payment-routing and failover requirements, tokenization and PCI considerations, fraud and authentication flows, and implementation assumptions. The proposal would distinguish standard platform capabilities from custom work, define ownership across teams, identify dependencies and risks, and provide phased milestones. I would also connect the design to business metrics such as conversion, authorization recovery, time to launch, and operational control.
I would first clarify the underlying customer outcome rather than treating the initial request as the only solution. I would validate feasibility, effort, security implications, and roadmap alignment with Product and Engineering, then present the customer with transparent options such as a supported configuration, workaround, phased approach, or roadmap discussion. This protects trust while preventing commitments that cannot be delivered.
I would standardize the repeatable components: baseline environments, integration patterns, architecture diagrams, discovery checklists, and objection-handling materials. For each prospect, I would tailor the narrative, workflows, metrics, and relevant payment scenarios to their industry and stated priorities. This provides speed and consistency while ensuring the demo directly reflects the customer's business problem.
About Us:
Spreedly is the world’s leading Open Payments Platform. Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Durham, NC, the company gives mid-market and enterprise businesses the infrastructure to connect to any payment gateway, processor, or fraud tool through a single API. The platform is vendor-agnostic by design, meaning customers are never locked into a single provider and never need to rebuild their payments stack to access new capabilities.
The core business problem Spreedly solves is real and costly: global merchants face a fragmented payments ecosystem, where every new market, payment method, or fraud tool typically requires a separate, time-consuming integration. Spreedly eliminates that complexity, enabling companies to route transactions intelligently, secure cardholder data, prevent fraud, and expand into new markets without heavy engineering overhead.
About the Role:
As a Technical Program Manager, you will be a key player in our pre-sales and customer solutioning efforts. You will partner closely with Account Executives, Product, and Engineering to scope technical solutions that align with customer needs and drive Spreedly’s growth. This is a customer-facing, consultative role focused on understanding prospect pain points and designing solutions that connect Spreedly’s platform capabilities to business outcomes.
You will also influence revenue growth, shorten time-to-close, and accelerate value realization for our customers. As Spreedly scales, this role will shape our go-to-market infrastructure through solution templates, demo assets, and mentoring, making it an ideal opportunity for impact and professional growth.

- Partner with Customer Success and Support teams to ensure smooth implementation handoffs
- Serve as a technical expert in RFPs, security reviews, and compliance questionnaires
- Educate internal teams on platform capabilities, integration patterns, and sales enablement materials
Requirements:
- 3+ years in a Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, or Technical Account Manager role within a B2B SaaS or fintech environment
- Industry experience with eCommerce, PSPs, payment orchestration, or payment platforms

Spreedly Product Offering:
Spreedly provides an open payments platform. The platform’s connectivity provides payments performance. Key products and services include:
Connect — A unified API that integrates with hundreds of payment gateways, processors, and alternative payment methods worldwide, including digital wallets. Merchants access the global payments ecosystem through one connection.
Vault — A PCI-compliant secure repository for payment methods. Merchants store card data once and reuse it across any payment service, reducing PCI scope and protecting cardholder data at scale.
Optimize — Workflow-driven routing and retry logic that directs each transaction to the best-performing gateway in real time. On average, 7.9% of failed transactions succeed immediately when retried on a secondary gateway. This is where merchants recover lost revenue and increase authorization success rates.
Protect — A flexible fraud and authentication layer, incorporating advanced fraud tools and 3DS. Following Spreedly’s acquisition of Dodgeball in September 2025, fraud orchestration and payment optimization now operate within the same platform.
Resolve — Centralized management and reporting that reduces operational silos, strengthens security, and improves billing control across a merchant’s entire payment operation.
