Sample interview questions
How would you diagnose and improve a shortfall in qualified pipeline?

I would first validate the data and map conversion performance from traffic through opportunity creation by segment, channel, and cohort. I would identify the largest volume or conversion constraint, form prioritized hypotheses, and run targeted tests with clear success metrics. I would review results with Sales and Operations, then scale the approaches that improve qualified pipeline efficiently.

Describe how you build a lead and MQL forecast.

I start with historical conversion rates, sales-cycle timing, channel mix, seasonality, and planned campaign investments. I model leads, MQLs, opportunities, and pipeline by source and segment, creating base, upside, and downside scenarios. The forecast is updated regularly using actual performance and shared in a format that makes the available growth levers clear.

How do you manage paid-media agencies while retaining accountability for outcomes?

I establish a shared measurement framework covering pipeline, conversion quality, CAC or cost per qualified lead, and experiment velocity. I set clear briefs, reporting cadences, and decision rights, while maintaining access to platform and CRM data. I challenge recommendations against funnel outcomes, not surface-level engagement metrics, and reallocate budget based on evidence.

What is your approach to field marketing and executive events?

I begin with the target account or buyer audience and determine whether the event should create net-new demand, accelerate active opportunities, or deepen customer expansion. I partner with Sales on invite lists, pre-event outreach, meeting goals, and post-event follow-up. I measure success through meetings, opportunity progression, sourced or influenced pipeline, and lessons that improve the next program.

How would you ensure reliable lead flow and routing between marketing automation and CRM systems?

I would document lifecycle definitions, ownership rules, routing logic, enrichment steps, and exception handling with Marketing Operations, Sales Operations, and Sales leadership. I would implement monitoring for sync failures, duplicates, assignment delays, and SLA adherence. Regular audits and feedback from sales reps would help ensure the process remains accurate as campaigns and territories evolve.

About Maze

Maze is the user research platform that helps companies build the right products faster by making user insights available at the speed of product development.

In most companies, research demand far exceeds supply. Time, cost, and lack of access to expertise hold teams back. In today’s AI-powered world, anyone can build a product fast. The real challenge? Deeply understanding user needs and building the right product. That’s where Maze comes in.

We believe companies shouldn’t have to choose between building fast and building right. Maze makes research accessible, intuitive, and fast so product teams can put user insights at the center of every decision.

Our platform enables researchers, designers, and product managers to quickly recruit participants, run studies autonomously, and surface insights that actually drive product decisions. Our AI capabilities automate the busywork and add depth and direction to the insights themselves.

That’s why Maze was recently named the #1 user research platform in UX Tools’ Design Tools Survey—and why we’re scaling fast across industries like B2B SaaS, e-Commerce, Financial Services, Retail, and Automotive, supporting world class customers such as Uber, Amazon, Atlassian, Anthropic & more.

Maze is a Series B company backed by top-tier investors (Felicis, Emergence & Amplify). We operate a global remote workforce driven by our core values.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Director, Demand Generation to own the programs and pipeline that fuel Maze’s growth. You’ll be the connective tissue between strategy and execution, diagnosing where the funnel breaks, building campaigns that fix it, and working in lockstep with Sales and Business Operations to turn demand into revenue. This is a role for someone who genuinely cares about the product research space and the teams we serve, is informed by data, moves fast, and is always thinking about the next iteration.

This is a senior individual contributor role with the opportunity to build and lead a team over time.

What You’ll Do:

  • Own top-of-funnel demand generation with a clear focus on leads, MQLs, and pipeline creation, primarily for new business with a meaningful eye on expansion

  • Develop and execute demand generation strategy by continuously identifying gaps in the funnel and proposing, testing, and deploying solutions

  • Manage paid campaigns in collaboration with our agency partners across existing channels, while actively researching and piloting new ones, iterating based on what the data tells you

  • Plan and execute field marketing programs including conferences and executive events designed to create pipeline and accelerate deals already in motion

  • Build and maintain lead and MQL forecasting models so the team always has a reliable, data-backed view of where we stand and what levers to pull

  • Recommend greenfield opportunities for us, including new channels, and piloting tests to validate performance

  • Own campaign operations including lead flow, routing logic, and data integrity across our marketing ops stack, working closely with Sales and Business Operations

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in demand generation at a B2B SaaS company

  • Experience in the user or market research industry and empathy for our ICP — you understand who we’re selling to, what they care about, and how to reach them in ways that resonate

  • A track record of successfully driving leads, MQLs, and pipeline through a mix of paid programs, field marketing, and multi-channel campaigns

  • The ability to own direction and outcomes for demand generation, balancing short-term execution with longer-term strategy

  • Strong analytical instincts with a habit of using data as the basis for decisions, building forecasts with rigor, and translating funnel metrics into clear business narratives

  • Experience managing paid campaigns through agency relationships and holding partners accountable to performance

  • Hands-on familiarity with marketing automation and CRM tools, and a solid understanding of how data flows between them

  • A bias for experimentation you approach demand gen with curiosity, iterate quickly, and know that not every test will work

  • Collaborative by nature, with strong working relationships across Marketing, Sales, and Business Operations

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, able to identify what’s broken, structure a plan to fix it, and move without waiting for perfect information

Inclusivity and Pay

At Maze, we are dedicated to building an equitable, inclusive, and authentic workspace. Unique and diverse perspectives are welcomed, and continuous growth is encouraged. We believe that people are more than their resumes, so if your past experience looks different than the criteria listed, we’d still love to hear from you. We appreciate and celebrate non-traditional life routes and encourage you to apply should you connect with a job description or the Maze culture.

Maze values transparency and it enables us to approach compensation equitably across the world. We are informed by data and regularly check our salary ranges (either United States or Rest of World) against other venture backed companies. Additionally, we are proud of our holistic and generous benefits offerings, included in every compensation package.

Your salary is dependent upon many factors, including years of experience, expertise, etc. During your first interview, you can expect to have an open conversation with your recruiter regarding your compensation expectations.

Why Maze is unique

  • Early-stage startup: You will join an early-stage startup with less than 150 team members. This means you’ll have the unique opportunity to directly impact success and help shape the future of Maze.

  • Market disruption: We believe that the way companies build products is fundamentally broken and the user research market is ripe for disruption. For too long, companies have been forced to choose between rapid development without user insights or investing months into research before bringing products to market. But there’s finally a groundswell building around a path forward that eliminates this compromise – and Maze is leading the charge.

  • Product-market Fit: Maze is used by 100,000+ brands across 4,000 companies, from SMB to enterprises, and in the last fiscal year, we saw 6.5M questions answered, supporting 25K decisions

  • Health insurance with international coverage, vision, and dental: 100% of the team member premium paid
