Sample interview questions
I would begin by defining the task, legal jurisdiction, permitted sources, user intent, and risk level. I would create a rubric covering substantive accuracy, completeness, citation support, uncertainty handling, confidentiality, and alignment with legal workflow, then test it using representative curated cases and both automated and expert review.
I would first isolate where variance enters the workflow by logging inputs, tool calls, intermediate reasoning artifacts where appropriate, retrieval results, and final outputs. I would then form testable hypotheses around prompt structure, retrieval quality, tool constraints, orchestration, and evaluation data, validate changes against a fixed benchmark suite, and monitor for regressions.
I have worked with structured formats such as JSON, XML, and Markdown to represent documents, metadata, taxonomies, and evaluation cases. I focus on clear schemas, validation rules, provenance, and versioning so legal data can be reliably consumed by both software systems and reviewers.
I would explain the issue in concrete product terms: the user scenario, the potential incorrect behavior, the legal or workflow consequence, and the acceptance criteria for a safer outcome. I would avoid unsupported legal conclusions, distinguish high-confidence requirements from open questions, and propose practical implementation and testing options.
I use risk-based prioritization. High-impact or irreversible legal failures receive stronger controls and human review, while lower-risk experiences can be improved through lightweight automated checks, staged releases, and continuous measurement; this allows teams to ship while maintaining explicit quality guardrails.
