Sample interview questions
How would you develop an outreach strategy for a California county with diverse cultural and language needs?

I would begin with a stakeholder and community assessment using local demographic data, existing referral pathways, and listening sessions with trusted community leaders. I would segment priority audiences, adapt messages and materials for relevant languages and cultural contexts, and establish a mix of school, county, healthcare, and grassroots channels. I would then track referrals, event engagement, and conversion outcomes in Salesforce and refine the strategy based on results.

Describe how you build trust with senior public-sector and community partners.

I prepare by understanding each partner's priorities, constraints, constituents, and current initiatives. In meetings, I lead with shared outcomes, clearly explain the program's value, and identify practical ways to reduce burden for their teams. I maintain trust through reliable follow-up, transparent reporting, and by incorporating partner feedback into plans.

What metrics would you use to evaluate community engagement performance?

I would measure outreach activity, partner pipeline stage, event attendance, webinar registrations, material distribution, referral volume, service enrollments, and conversion rates. I would also examine qualitative feedback, channel effectiveness, and engagement by audience segment to identify gaps. A regular dashboard would connect these indicators to recommendations for the next outreach cycle.

Tell us about a time you changed an outreach approach after receiving feedback or seeing weak results.

In a prior engagement initiative, initial participation was lower than expected despite broad promotion. I gathered feedback from community contacts and found that the messaging was too general and the event timing conflicted with family schedules. We revised the message around a clearer benefit, partnered with trusted local messengers, added virtual options, and adjusted timing, which improved attendance and follow-up engagement.

How would you handle an evening or weekend event where a parent raises a sensitive child mental-health concern?

I would respond with empathy, listen without attempting to provide clinical advice beyond my scope, and explain the appropriate BrightLife Kids resources and enrollment pathway. If there were an immediate safety concern, I would follow established escalation and crisis-response protocols. I would protect the family's privacy and ensure they leave with clear, supportive next steps.
