Sample interview questions
I establish a clear intake and prioritization process based on due dates, business impact, dependencies, and available linguistic capacity. I maintain a visible project tracker, communicate trade-offs early, and provide clients with timely status updates and recovery options when scope or timing changes.
I would first map the current workflow, gather data on turnaround time, error rates, handoffs, and recurring blockers, and validate pain points with the client and internal teams. I would then propose targeted improvements such as TMS automation, revised file-preparation standards, streamlined approvals, or CMS integrations, document the new process, and measure results after implementation.
I use TMS and CAT tooling to manage translation memories, glossaries, workflows, assignments, and quality checks across multilingual content. I focus on consistent configuration, clear linguistic assets, automated validation where appropriate, and reporting that identifies quality or throughput trends requiring action.
I would communicate promptly, explain the issue factually, clarify the expected impact, and present practical options with their associated timing and quality considerations. I would remain accountable for coordinating the recovery plan, provide regular updates, and document root causes and preventative actions after delivery.
I tailor communication to each group's needs while maintaining shared goals, ownership, deadlines, and decision records. I translate client requirements into actionable operational tasks, surface dependencies early, and use structured status reporting to ensure all teams have the information needed to deliver successfully.

- At least 2-3 years of experience in localization or translation project management, ideally within a managed services or agency environment
- Solid understanding of localization file formats, content types, and CAT/TMS tooling

- Proficiency with project management and reporting tools (e.g., Jira, Asana, Google Sheets, Looker, or equivalent)
- Experience coordinating with cross-functional teams across engineering, QA, and vendor management
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with sharp attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities across time zones
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred but not required
- Hands-on experience with Smartling or other TMS platforms (such as Phrase, XTM, or MemoQ)
- Experience supporting enterprise or SaaS clients in an operational or customer-facing role.
- Fluency or working proficiency in a second language
- Interest in language, technology, or global content strategy
