Sample interview questions
I would start by identifying the highest-risk user journeys, integration points, and failure modes with product and engineering partners. I would apply a risk-based test approach, ensuring critical paths have appropriate unit, API, and end-to-end coverage while using exploratory testing for uncertain areas. I would document explicit trade-offs, automate the most valuable regression checks, and define post-release monitoring and follow-up work for lower-priority risks.
I design automated tests around stable user outcomes and service contracts rather than fragile implementation details. In Playwright, I would use resilient locators, isolated test data, parallel execution where safe, trace artifacts for failures, and a clear separation between page abstractions and test intent. I also review flaky-test trends regularly, treating test reliability as a product-quality concern rather than accepting retries as a permanent fix.
I first work to establish a clear timeline, customer impact, and reproducible conditions without assigning blame. I partner with engineering to identify both the technical cause and the earliest control point where the issue could have been prevented, such as requirements clarification, a contract test, observability, or a release guardrail. I then ensure corrective actions have owners and due dates, and share the learning in a concise retrospective so the wider team benefits.
I would make quality collaborative and concrete by involving engineers in risk discussions, test design, mob testing, and reviewing real escaped defects. Rather than policing quality, I would demonstrate how earlier testing and better observability reduce rework and improve delivery confidence. I would provide lightweight templates and examples, recognize positive behavior, and gradually help the team own quality decisions themselves.
I would combine signals such as defect escape rate, flaky-test frequency, incident themes, support impact, cycle time, and coverage gaps to identify the highest-leverage improvements. AI can assist with analyzing failure patterns, drafting test scenarios, accelerating test-data creation, or summarizing incident evidence, but I would validate outputs and maintain clear engineering ownership. The goal is to use AI to reduce repetitive work while improving the team’s judgment, feedback loops, and customer outcomes.

Our Engineering Standards
Balance Speed and Quality
Engineers are expected to balance delivery speed with a strong commitment to quality, meeting agreed timelines while producing reliable, maintainable, and well-tested solutions. Sound judgment in making trade-offs between velocity and long-term sustainability is essential.
Collaborate Effectively
Engineering is collaborative by default. Team members are expected to contribute constructively in design discussions, reviews, and planning, communicate clearly about progress and risks, and support shared team outcomes in both hybrid and distributed environments.
Build and Maintain Systems
Engineers are responsible for building new capabilities while maintaining and improving existing systems. This includes designing scalable solutions, reducing technical debt, supporting operational stability, and contributing to continuous improvement.
Operate with Autonomy
A high degree of autonomy is expected. Given clear objectives, engineers should independently translate problems into actionable technical approaches, proactively identify improvements, and continuously expand relevant technical expertise.
Ownership and Accountability
Ownership is fundamental. Engineers are accountable for the quality, performance, and customer impact of their work from design through post-release support, and are expected to follow through on commitments.
AI-Enabled Engineering
AI is reshaping how software is built, and we are committed to leveraging it as a force multiplier for creativity, impact, and capability. Engineers are expected to confidently apply strong technical fundamentals while embracing AI tools and approaches to enhance productivity, problem-solving, and innovation.
