Sample interview questions
How would you explain a personalized recommendation to a user without making the interface feel overly technical?

I would start with the user’s immediate question—why they are seeing this—and write plain, specific language such as “Inspired by your recent saves.” I would pair that explanation with an actionable control, such as an option to refine interests or hide similar content. I would validate the language through usability research and behavioral signals to ensure it improves understanding without adding clutter.

Describe how you would approach content design for a new Homefeed personalization feature.

I would first align with Product, Design, Engineering, Research, and Data Science on the user problem, recommendation logic, risks, and success metrics. Then I would map key states and decision points, develop content principles and prototypes, and test them with users. After launch, I would review qualitative feedback and metrics such as engagement, control usage, and comprehension to iterate.

How do you use research and data when making content decisions?

I use research to understand user mental models, needs, and points of confusion, while product data helps prioritize where content can have the greatest impact. I treat metrics as evidence rather than a replacement for user understanding. When signals conflict, I investigate the context, form a hypothesis, and test alternative content approaches.

What makes a content framework scalable?

A scalable framework defines clear principles, reusable patterns, terminology, governance, and examples for common scenarios. It should support consistency while leaving room for contextual judgment, especially in dynamic experiences such as personalization. I would document the framework in partnership with design systems and product teams, then refine it based on adoption and usability findings.

How would you responsibly use AI in your content design process?

I would use AI to accelerate divergent exploration, summarize research themes, generate draft variants, and identify consistency issues, while retaining human judgment for product intent, inclusivity, accuracy, and user trust. I would avoid treating generated output as final without review and testing. For sensitive personalization language, I would be especially careful about transparency, privacy implications, and misleading claims.
