Sample interview questions
How would you build a global salary-band framework that accounts for job architecture, market data, and geographic differentials?

I would first validate job levels, career architecture, and incumbent data, then map reliable survey benchmarks to each role and location. I would define a consistent market-positioning philosophy, model ranges with appropriate spreads and midpoint progressions, and test the outcomes for pay equity, budget impact, and outlier populations. Finally, I would document governance, refresh cadence, and decision rules so the framework remains scalable.

Describe how you would prepare and execute a global merit cycle in Workday Advanced Compensation.

I would begin by confirming eligibility, compensation guidelines, budgets, security roles, and data quality with HRIS, Finance, and HRBPs. I would configure and thoroughly test worksheets, validation rules, proration logic, approval flows, and downstream payroll interfaces in a controlled environment. During launch, I would provide manager guidance and reporting, monitor exceptions and budget utilization daily, and conduct reconciliation and lessons-learned reviews after completion.

How have you used AI tools responsibly in compensation or people analytics work?

I use approved enterprise AI tools to accelerate exploratory analysis, formula or SQL drafting, trend synthesis, and first drafts of stakeholder communications. I do not use AI output as a final source of truth; I validate calculations, protect sensitive employee data, follow access and privacy controls, and retain human judgment for compensation recommendations. For high-impact decisions, I document inputs, assumptions, review steps, and limitations.

What analyses would you perform when evaluating an executive equity refresh proposal?

I would assess the executive's current holdings, vesting schedule, realized and unrealized value, ownership guidelines, peer practices, dilution, burn rate, and available equity budget. I would model multiple grant-size and share-price scenarios, compare vehicle alternatives where relevant, and align the recommendation to retention, performance, and governance objectives. I would then present a concise analysis with assumptions, risks, and a clear decision recommendation for leadership and the board process.

How would you explain a new pay-transparency or compensation-policy change to managers and employees?

I would tailor messages by audience, beginning with a clear explanation of what is changing, why it matters, when it takes effect, and what actions are required. For managers, I would provide practical talking points, decision guidance, examples, FAQs, and live training to improve consistency. For employees, I would use plain language, transparent definitions, and accessible channels for questions, while tracking common concerns to refine the communications.
