Sample interview questions
I have supported end-to-end compliance by assembling source data, preparing reconciliations and workpapers, coordinating with local advisors, reviewing draft returns for completeness, and tracking submissions against statutory deadlines. I prioritize a clear filing calendar and documented review process to manage differences across jurisdictions.
I would begin by obtaining current financial data and legal-entity information, then prepare or validate the supporting calculations and reconciliations for current and deferred taxes. I would investigate material variances, document assumptions and evidence, coordinate with local teams and advisors, and provide complete workpapers for management review under ASC 740 requirements.
I maintain a centralized compliance calendar showing each obligation, owner, required inputs, review dates, and filing deadline. I set reminders ahead of key milestones, hold regular status check-ins with advisors, escalate missing inputs early, and retain final filings and supporting documentation in an organized repository.
I would first clarify the scope, deadline, and requested documentation, then coordinate internally to gather accurate source records and involve the relevant external tax advisor where appropriate. I would provide consistent, well-supported responses, track all correspondence, and identify any control or process improvements arising from the inquiry.
I use updates from tax advisors, professional bodies, and relevant tax authorities, then evaluate changes against the company's entities, transactions, and compliance processes. I summarize the practical impact, deadlines, risks, and recommended actions for the Tax Manager and affected finance stakeholders.
