Sample interview questions
I would explain the starting funnel, target segment, and revenue constraint, then distinguish my direct work from team contributions. A strong answer would quantify activities and outcomes, such as improved demo-to-close conversion, expansion revenue, pipeline creation, retention, or payback period, and identify the lessons that informed the next iteration.
I would begin with structured knowledge transfer, review support tickets and sales calls, meet top merchants, and map current revenue by customer segment, use case, plan, and churn risk. In parallel, I would establish a prioritized roadmap, define a small set of commercial experiments, document critical operating knowledge, and create a simple weekly view of pipeline, product priorities, and customer escalations.
I would clarify the merchant's business outcome, technical requirements, timeline, strategic fit, and willingness to pay. I would estimate engineering effort and ongoing support burden with the developer, assess whether the capability can be reused, then propose a clearly scoped implementation fee and, where appropriate, recurring pricing that reflects the value and maintenance commitment.
I would use a transparent prioritization framework that considers revenue impact, customer reach, strategic alignment, effort, risk, and learning value. Urgent issues affecting reliability or key accounts receive rapid attention, while one-off requests are evaluated for pricing or deferred unless they support a repeatable product capability.
I would use AI to accelerate support-ticket synthesis, competitive research, documentation drafts, product specifications, call summaries, and data analysis, while maintaining human review for customer commitments, pricing, technical accuracy, and sensitive information. The goal is to reduce administrative friction and improve decision quality rather than automate judgment without accountability.
About this role.
This role is part of our Advanced Shipping Manager (ASM) team, one of our brands at saas.group.
Advanced Shipping Manager gives e-commerce merchants real-time, rules-based shipping rates and accurate delivery estimates at checkout — across parcel and LTL freight, with FedEx, UPS, USPS and other carriers, on Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Magento, Wix, Turbify, Miva Merchant, and Shift4Shop. For 21 years and thousands of merchants, it has been the app that stores with genuinely complex shipping — multiple warehouses, freight, dimensional rules, multi-storefront operations — rely on to quote correctly.
Profile Overview
This is a growth role first. Advanced Shipping Manager is a profitable, established, deeply embedded product with a loyal base and a founder who built it into the category over many years. We’re looking for someone to step into the founder’s product shoes and bring ASM into a new chapter of growth.
You’ll own the commercial side of the brand end-to-end – pricing and packaging, expansion into the existing base, competitive win-back, and the conversations that turn high-volume merchants into customers – and you’ll own the product roadmap that supports it, directing a senior developer who already runs the engineering side well, and a support team member who works directly with existing users. You’ll work alongside ASM’s founder and the managing director, with a structured handover as the founder transitions out of his role at the end of the year.
If you want a business where the growth ceiling is set by what you build rather than by what you inherit, this is an exciting version of that.
Your immediate impact in the first 3-6 months will be:
- Immerse in support tickets, demos and customer calls to learn the product and the merchants fast
- Structured knowledge transfer from the founder before his exit – carriers, freight, transit logic, customer history, and the commercial judgment behind a decade of pricing calls
- Take over day-to-day product direction of our senior developer and support lead
- Build the first real outbound motion the brand has had: follow-up on inbound demo interest, competitive switch conversations, and targeted outreach to high-volume merchants
- Own pricing and packaging proposals, and turn our custom-development work into a properly packaged, properly priced service line
- Own top-merchant relationships and build a larger-account sales motion
Your responsibilities
- Use AI as a force multiplier across support, product specs, documentation, competitive research and data analysis — this is core to how the role works, not a buzzword
- Own growth. Expansion within the existing base, pricing and packaging, win-back, competitive switching, and net-new acquisition alongside our shared sales & marketing resource. You’ll be measured on revenue, not activity
- Own the product: roadmap, prioritization and direction for our senior full-stack developer — including the “why,” not just the “what”
- Be in the product’s front line: run demos and merchant conversations, back up our support lead on escalations, and turn those conversations into roadmap insight, reviews and pipeline
- Scope and price custom work. Merchants pay well for tailored shipping logic; you’ll qualify it, quote it, and make sure it gets built and billed
- Improve the operating layer: documentation, help-centre content, CRM discipline and lightweight process for a business that has run brilliantly on founder intuition and very little scaffolding
What You bring to the table
- A track record of personally generating revenue in small B2B SaaS. Come ready to tell us about a specific motion or account you grew, what you did yourself, and what the numbers were — this matters more to us than any other line here
- Experience in growth, product, or founder/operator roles in B2B SaaS or e-commerce, ideally in early-stage or small-team environments
- Customer-facing by instinct and by preference. You’re comfortable picking up the phone to a merchant doing 10,000 orders a month, and you’re good at it
- Technically fluent: you can scope features with a developer, read API docs, and reason about integration trade-offs and shipping-rate calculation logic — you don’t need to write code yourself
- Commercially literate: comfortable owning pricing experiments, conversion metrics and revenue outcomes, and making the call on what something should cost
- Self-directed and structure-building: you’ve operated where the process didn’t exist until you wrote it, and where there was no funnel to optimize until you built one
- E-commerce platform experience — Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Magento or similar. Deep knowledge of any one of them transfers
- Nice to have: shipping, logistics or carrier-integration experience; experience directing remote or contractor teams
- AI Literacy & Application: You actively use AI tools to enhance personal productivity and work quality, staying curious about emerging capabilities and identifying opportunities to apply AI pragmatically in day-to-day work
What’s in it for You
- Ultimate flexibility: We’re 100% remote. You can work from wherever you like, with flexible hours, while keeping in mind this role needs meaningful overlap with US business hours to support both our merchants and our team.
- Freedom and autonomy: We’re a high-trust team, and you’ll be given lots of flexibility to solve problems in your own way, with plenty of help from the team when you need it.
- Minimum bureaucracy: We don’t like to get bogged down with meetings and red tape. We like to be efficient and keep momentum steady & sustainable.
- Small & friendly team: We help each other out, have fun, and joke around.
- Our network: We are a community of entrepreneurial SaaS professionals that regularly exchange ideas, knowledge, learning and expertise with each other internally.
- Flexible time off: We want you to recharge your batteries when needed.
