The role, at a glance.
Reddit is seeking a senior indirect tax professional to build and scale global operational tax capabilities across US sales and use tax, VAT/GST, DSTs, and other transactional taxes. The role owns compliance operations, taxability and product mapping, reconciliations, audits, controls, and tax-engine or billing-system improvements. It partners extensively with product, commercial, finance, and systems stakeholders to operationalize tax requirements for new offerings and geographic expansion. The ideal candidate brings at least six years of multinational indirect-tax experience, strong technical judgment, and hands-on experience with systems such as Vertex, ERP, billing, or data tools.

Sample interview questions
I would first map the end-to-end transaction flow, customer type, contracting entity, invoicing model, and jurisdictions involved. I would identify taxability, registration, place-of-supply, invoicing, exemption, and reporting requirements, then translate them into product codes, tax-engine rules, data fields, controls, and testing scenarios. Finally, I would document ownership, monitor exceptions after launch, and establish a process for regulatory updates.
I would isolate the affected transaction population, compare the intended tax treatment with system logic, and determine whether the root cause is product mapping, customer data, nexus configuration, exemption handling, or integration logic. I would work with finance and engineering teams to test a controlled fix, quantify historical exposure, correct filings or invoices where necessary, and implement monitoring to prevent recurrence.
I use a jurisdictional compliance calendar with clear ownership, data dependencies, review controls, payment deadlines, and escalation points. I prioritize reliable source data and reconciliations between transactional systems, tax returns, and the general ledger. I also maintain documented tax positions and regularly reassess requirements as registrations, products, and regulations change.
I would avoid technical jargon and begin with the business impact: what must change, why it matters, and the risk of not addressing it. I would provide practical options, such as collecting tax at checkout, updating invoice content, or capturing a specific customer data point, along with the implementation timeline and accountable teams. This makes the decision actionable without requiring the stakeholder to become a tax expert.
I would promptly assess the scope, deadlines, jurisdictions, and periods at issue; preserve relevant records; and establish a centralized response plan. I would reconcile filed returns to source data, evaluate technical positions and potential exposure, coordinate internal stakeholders and external advisers as needed, and maintain clear communications with the authority. After resolution, I would identify control or process improvements to reduce future audit risk.

The Global Tax Team is seeking a hands-on indirect tax professional to help build and scale Reddit’s global indirect tax function. As Reddit continues to grow as a public company and expand its products and commercial offerings, this person will own critical elements of our US and international indirect tax operations, including US S&U tax and VAT/GST.
You will partner closely with the business to translate complex tax requirements into practical decisions, reliable systems, and scalable processes. In keeping with Reddit values, the successful candidate will operate with an open mindset, exercise sound judgment, and “value the human” in every interaction.
This position will report to the International Tax Senior Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Manage key elements of Reddit’s global indirect tax function across B2B and B2C revenue streams, including US S&U tax, VAT/GST, DSTs, and other transactional taxes.
- Oversee indirect tax registrations, return compliance, payments, exemption documentation, taxability determinations, and related controls across multiple jurisdictions.
- Own and improve indirect tax processes and systems, including product and taxability mapping, exemptions, transaction testing, system integrations, data validation, and issue resolution.
- Serve as the indirect tax cross-functional partner for new products and initiatives, commercial arrangements, billing changes, and geographic expansion.
- Monitor and implement evolving e-invoicing, digital reporting, and real-time reporting requirements.
- Perform indirect tax account reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, close activities, and internal controls.
- Advise on the indirect tax provisions of customer and vendor agreements, invoicing requirements, and available exemptions.
- Manage indirect tax audits, notices, and disclosures.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess their impact on Reddit.
- Develop scalable processes, automation, metrics, and documentation that improve data quality, reduce manual work, and strengthen operational controls.
- Contribute to broader Global Tax Team priorities and ad hoc projects, flexing beyond the role’s core indirect tax responsibilities as business needs evolve.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Tax, Accounting, or a related field.
- 6+ years of indirect tax experience in public accounting and/or a multinational corporate tax function, including meaningful hands-on operational experience.
- Technical and operational experience with both US and international indirect taxes, including B2B and B2C transactions.
- Experience researching product and service taxability, registration and nexus obligations, place-of-supply rules, invoicing requirements, and exemptions.
- Experience supporting indirect tax compliance, accounting, audits, and controls across multiple jurisdictions.
- Ability to understand end-to-end transaction flows and convert tax requirements into workable processes, data requirements, and system configurations.
- Strong project-management skills and experience supporting system changes or other cross-functional initiatives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex tax matters to non-tax stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and exercise sound judgment in a fast-moving and evolving environment.
- Strong attention to detail, ownership, curiosity, and commitment to developing durable solutions rather than temporary workarounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Vertex experience is highly preferred, particularly with rule or product mapping, transaction testing, system integrations, configuration changes, data validation, reconciliations, and production troubleshooting. Experience with another enterprise indirect tax engine will also be considered.
- Experience with indirect tax issues affecting technology, digital media, advertising, subscriptions, SaaS, or other high-volume transactional businesses.
- Experience implementing e-invoicing, digital reporting, or real-time reporting requirements.
- Experience working with ERP, billing, procurement, and financial-reporting systems and analyzing large transactional datasets.
- Experience with automation or data tools such as Alteryx or SQL.
- A CPA, CMI, MST, JD, LLM, or comparable professional qualification.
- A combination of public accounting and in-house experience.
