AI insightThe ATS compensation record lists a USD 50-1,000 monthly range, producing a disclosed-offer median of USD 525 per month. The posting explicitly guarantees $50 for one monthly workshop; the upper amount is likely influenced by variable, uncapped 1:1 coaching revenue rather than guaranteed wages. For comparison, the estimated US annual market range for a part-time construction-estimating instructor or career coach with relevant field experience is approximately USD 30,000-65,000 when work volume is regular; this is a market estimate, not a guaranteed offer.

Sample interview questions
How would you structure a one-hour workshop for students new to construction estimating?

I would begin with a simple overview of how an estimate moves from plans to takeoff, pricing, scope review, and bid submission. I would use a practical example, demonstrate the core tools or documents involved, reserve time for questions, and end with concrete next steps students can take to prepare for entry-level roles.

What advice would you give a student pursuing an Estimating Assistant role without construction experience?

I would encourage them to build fluency in construction drawings, quantity takeoffs, Excel, and estimating terminology while creating a small portfolio of practice work. I would also explain how to present transferable skills such as organization, attention to detail, communication, and comfort with numbers in their resume and interviews.

How do estimating workflows differ between general contractors and specialty subcontractors?

General contractors usually coordinate broad project scope, subcontractor bids, schedules, and overall bid risk. Specialty subcontractors focus more deeply on their trade-specific takeoffs, labor productivity, material pricing, exclusions, and installation requirements. I would teach students to recognize these differences when targeting roles.

How would you answer a student who is overwhelmed by estimating software options?

I would explain that software is a tool rather than a substitute for understanding drawings, scope, and quantities. I would recommend starting with Excel and one accessible takeoff tool such as Bluebeam or PlanSwift, practicing on sample plans, and learning the workflow before trying to master every platform.

How do you keep a live workshop engaging for career changers with varied experience levels?

I use plain language, relevant examples, and frequent opportunities for questions so participants can connect the material to real jobs. I would balance foundational explanations with practical insights, provide clear resources afterward, and invite students who need tailored guidance to optional individual coaching.

Part-Time Construction Estimating Career Coach

(Flexible, Paid Workshops + Upside)

About CourseCareers

CourseCareers is an online education platform that helps people launch new careers without a college degree or prior experience.

We partner with industry professionals to create job-focused courses that teach practical, employer-aligned skills across technology, business, construction, and the trades. Our students are career changers looking for realistic, entry-level roles — and coaching helps bridge the gap between coursework and landing the job.

About the Role

We’re looking for a part-time Construction Estimating Career Coach to support students through live workshops and optional 1:1 coaching.

This is not a traditional employment role and not a guaranteed-income position. It’s a flexible, paid opportunity best suited for construction estimating professionals who enjoy mentoring, teaching, and helping others break into the field — with upside if students choose to work with you.

How This Role Actually Works

  • You host a live, one-hour workshop (seminar-style) for students

  • You are paid $50 per workshop, plus any private coaching business you acquire

  • You may receive exclusive coaching opportunities based on performance and engagement

  • Workshops are used to provide value, answer questions, and showcase your expertise

  • If students choose to book you for 1:1 coaching, you keep the coaching revenue

  • You set your own availability and working hours

There is no requirement to convert students — workshops are paid regardless — but conversion is where the upside comes from.

Responsibilities

  • Host a live, one-hour workshop on a monthly basis

  • Answer student questions related to construction estimating and the job search

  • Share real-world insight into what entry-level estimating roles actually look like

  • Explain how estimating works in real construction environments (GCs, subs, specialty trades)

  • Discuss common tools, workflows, and expectations

  • Provide optional 1:1 coaching to students who request it

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of professional construction estimating experience

  • Experience estimating for GCs, subcontractors, or specialty trades (e.g. concrete, electrical, mechanical, roofing, etc.)

  • Familiarity with estimating tools such as Excel, PlanSwift, Bluebeam, ProEst, or similar software

  • Strong understanding of entry-level roles like Estimating Assistant, Junior Estimator, or Project Coordinator

  • Interest in mentoring and helping career changers

  • Strong communication and teaching ability

  • Availability at least three evenings per week, ideally Tuesday–Thursday

  • Self-starter mindset — comfortable leading workshops independently

Ideal Fit

This role is a great fit if you:

  • Enjoy teaching and mentoring

  • Want flexible, side income

  • Like the idea of being paid to teach — with optional upside

  • Don’t need guaranteed hours or full-time income

Compensation

  • $50 per one-hour workshop (One per month guaranteed)

  • Unlimited upside from 1:1 coaching sessions you convert

  • No caps, no quotas, no minimums
