Sample interview questions
I would complete a structured assessment of the pain diagnosis, severity, functional impact, prior treatments, comorbidities, current medicines, mental-health history, substance-use risks, and patient goals. I would then weigh potential benefits and risks against the evidence, explain uncertainty clearly, document shared decision-making, and establish monitoring and review arrangements if treatment were appropriate.
I rely on current clinical guidance, the available evidence base, robust documentation, informed consent, and clear escalation pathways. I also monitor outcomes and adverse effects systematically, participate in governance review, and update my practice as new evidence and protocols emerge.
I would prepare by reviewing the available pre-consultation information, then focus the appointment on confirming the key clinical history, assessing suitability and risks, clarifying goals, and making a clear treatment decision. I would use concise, empathetic communication and ensure the patient understands the plan, expected effects, safety advice, and follow-up process.
I would value their structured pre-consultation and follow-up input, use their assessments to inform my clinical decision-making, and provide unambiguous prescribing and monitoring instructions. Regular feedback and respectful communication would help ensure that changes in symptoms, adverse effects, or safeguarding concerns are escalated promptly.
Outcome data is essential for evaluating individual patient benefit, identifying adverse effects, supporting treatment adjustments, and strengthening the evidence base. I would ensure data is collected consistently, interpreted in clinical context, and used constructively in governance and quality-improvement discussions.
