Sample interview questions
Describe a growth experiment you engineered from hypothesis through measurement and rollout.

I would begin by defining the target behavior, success metric, guardrail metrics, and audience. I would implement the experiment behind a feature flag, ensure event instrumentation is validated, analyze statistical and segment-level results, and then either roll out, iterate, or retire the treatment based on impact and risk.

How would you design reliable instrumentation for an onboarding funnel?

I would define a consistent event taxonomy with stable names, user and account identifiers, timestamps, experiment assignments, and relevant properties. I would add client and server-side validation where appropriate, monitor event volume and schema changes, and reconcile critical conversion events with backend source-of-truth data.

How do you balance rapid experimentation with maintainable engineering standards?

I use lightweight but explicit technical boundaries: feature flags, reusable experiment components, documented assumptions, tests around critical paths, and clear cleanup ownership. Fast experiments should be reversible and observable; successful ones are then hardened, simplified, and incorporated into the product architecture.

Tell us how you would improve a slow React experience used by a key conversion funnel.

I would first profile the page to identify whether the bottleneck is rendering, network activity, bundle size, or backend latency. Based on findings, I might reduce unnecessary renders, virtualize large lists, lazy-load noncritical code, optimize API payloads, cache appropriate requests, and measure the resulting effect on both performance and conversion.

How have AI development tools improved your software delivery workflow?

I use AI tools to accelerate routine implementation, generate test cases, investigate errors, summarize unfamiliar code paths, and draft documentation. I validate all output through code review, tests, security checks, and domain reasoning, treating AI as a productivity aid rather than a substitute for engineering judgment.
