Sample interview questions
I begin by aligning on the customer problem, business outcome, constraints, and success metrics. I combine customer interviews, product data, and stakeholder input to form hypotheses, then map flows and prototype the strongest options. I validate assumptions quickly with users, refine the chosen direction, and partner closely with engineering through implementation and measurement after launch.
I audit repeated patterns and identify where inconsistent components create usability or engineering cost. I define reusable components with clear states, behavior, accessibility guidance, and usage rules, then work with engineers to align the design library and production implementation. I measure success through reduced rework, faster delivery, and more consistent customer experiences.
I would review visual fidelity, responsive behavior, interaction states, accessibility, component reuse, and alignment with the design system. I would compare the implementation against intended user flows and edge cases rather than only judging the static interface. I would provide actionable feedback in the team’s Git-based workflow and collaborate with engineering to resolve issues efficiently.
In a discovery project, early customer interviews showed that a workflow we assumed was simple created confusion because users lacked context at a key decision point. I revised the information architecture, introduced progressive disclosure, and tested an interactive prototype with users before development. The revised flow improved task completion and gave the team confidence to prioritize the change.
I distinguish decisions that are reversible from those that require deeper validation, then use lightweight prototypes and focused research to learn quickly. I maintain quality through clear principles, reusable components, accessibility checks, and frequent collaboration with engineering. This approach enables fast iteration without treating customer trust or core usability as negotiable.
