Sample interview questions
How have you used P&L data to change a business unit’s commercial strategy?

I review revenue quality, margin, delivery economics, retention, pipeline conversion, and investment returns together. When results diverge from plan, I identify the specific driver, such as pricing, account concentration, or weak qualification, then reallocate resources and establish measurable corrective actions.

Describe how you would develop an industry growth plan for Industrial Products and Services at Toptal.

I would begin with the existing portfolio, market opportunities, client needs, competitive position, and delivery capabilities. I would prioritize a focused set of verticals, offerings, and accounts where Toptal has a credible right to win, define revenue and margin assumptions, and validate the plan through direct executive client conversations.

How do you lead a complex enterprise opportunity from discovery to close?

I establish the client’s business problem, economic impact, stakeholders, buying process, and decision criteria before proposing a solution. I then coordinate the right specialists, build a quantified business case, manage risks and procurement requirements, and personally engage executives during critical negotiation points.

What is your approach to improving the performance of a sales team?

I use regular pipeline, account-plan, and call reviews to make expectations concrete and coach against real opportunities. I identify whether gaps stem from targeting, discovery, qualification, solution positioning, or execution, provide direct feedback, and hold people accountable for sustained improvement.

How do you maintain forecast credibility in a rapidly changing enterprise-sales environment?

I require evidence for each opportunity’s value, close date, buyer commitment, and next steps rather than relying on seller confidence. I inspect pipeline quality frequently, challenge assumptions early, model downside scenarios, and take action on coverage or conversion gaps before they affect the financial plan.
