The role, at a glance.
This junior accounting role supports reconciliations of bank and payment-processor activity, resolution of unapplied customer payments, and Canadian sales-tax filings. The accountant will also maintain tax data in Salesforce, process tax reclassifications, prepare audit support, and identify process improvements. It is a permanent remote role based in Manila, with work performed on North American Eastern Time hours. The position suits an early-career accounting professional with strong Excel skills, precision, and the ability to manage confidential financial information. Regular coordination with Collections, Finance, and external audit stakeholders is required.

Sample interview questions
I would first match transactions by date, amount, reference number, and settlement status. I would then identify timing differences, fees, reversals, duplicates, or missing postings, document the cause, make or request the appropriate correction, and ensure the reconciliation is fully supported.
I would maintain an aging list of unapplied cash, validate remittance details against invoices and customer accounts, and work with Collections to resolve exceptions promptly. I would document allocation decisions and escalate unresolved or unusual items to prevent misstated receivables.
I would reconcile taxable sales and tax payable balances to supporting reports, verify the applicable tax codes and rates, investigate variances from prior periods, and retain clear evidence for review. I would also use a filing checklist to confirm deadlines, approvals, and payment status.
I use functions such as XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, pivot tables, conditional formatting, and data validation to compare data sets, identify exceptions, and create repeatable reconciliation templates. Where appropriate, I would use structured files or automation tools to reduce manual entry while preserving review controls.
I would plan my schedule around the required EST overlap, keep task statuses and reconciliation evidence organized, and communicate early about blockers or deadlines. I would use clear written updates and calendar discipline to coordinate effectively with the Finance team and other stakeholders.
