Sample interview questions
How would you create a scalable operating model for a global events portfolio?

I would begin with an assessment of current event types, workflows, tooling, budget controls, and recurring delivery issues. I would then define common phase gates, RACI ownership, intake criteria, planning templates, risk reviews, and executive reporting standards while allowing limited regional flexibility. Adoption would be reinforced through training, measurable service levels, and post-event retrospectives.

Describe how you would prioritize competing event investments across regions.

I would use a consistent business-case framework that considers strategic alignment, expected pipeline or retention impact, audience value, cost, capacity, risk, and regional priorities. I would review the portfolio with senior stakeholders on a regular cadence, making explicit tradeoffs among scaling, consolidating, postponing, or retiring programs. Decisions would be documented against agreed success metrics and budget constraints.

How do you manage a large flagship event with multiple workstreams and senior stakeholders?

I establish a single integrated plan with clear workstream owners, milestones, dependencies, critical paths, escalation routes, and decision deadlines. Regular operating reviews focus on risks, scope changes, budget variance, and unresolved decisions rather than simple status updates. I tailor executive communications to show key tradeoffs, recommended actions, and business impact.

What metrics would you use to evaluate the effectiveness of global events?

I would combine operational and business metrics, including budget adherence, forecast accuracy, attendance and engagement, attendee satisfaction, lead quality, pipeline contribution, revenue influence, customer retention signals, and event ROI. The metric mix should vary by event objective, so each program has defined success criteria before planning begins. Post-event reporting should convert findings into concrete improvements for future programs.

How would you lead and develop a distributed team of event program managers?

I would set clear role expectations, competency standards, decision rights, and shared planning practices while giving managers ownership of their programs. Regular one-to-ones, portfolio reviews, peer learning, and structured retrospectives would support coaching and knowledge sharing. I would also create growth plans that build leadership capability, financial acumen, stakeholder management, and operational discipline.
