Sample interview questions
I would first quantify the deal economics, including expected revenue, margin, usage assumptions, implementation costs, renewal potential, and risk. I would compare the request with pricing guardrails and comparable deals, identify acceptable trade-offs, and present sales with structured options rather than a simple approval or rejection. I would then align Finance, Legal, and leadership on the recommended path and document the rationale for future pricing analysis.
I would map the current quote-to-approval workflow, analyze error rates, approval cycle time, manual interventions, and commonly used exceptions. I would prioritize simplifying high-volume rules, standardizing product and pricing logic, automating routine approvals within clear thresholds, and improving data quality in price books. I would validate changes with sales users and measure the impact through quote turnaround time and exception frequency.
I would track stage-to-stage conversion, time in approval, quote revision volume, discount levels, exception categories, legal turnaround time, and win rates by segment and deal type. I would also compare cycle times for standard versus non-standard deals and monitor the frequency of manual CPQ overrides. These metrics would identify bottlenecks and help prioritize process or policy changes.
I set clear guardrails that allow sales to move independently on low-risk, repeatable requests while reserving cross-functional review for material commercial, financial, or legal exceptions. For urgent deals, I communicate the business context, decision deadline, and risks in a concise recommendation to approvers. This preserves control without making the approval process an unnecessary blocker.
I would present the trend through a concise narrative supported by clear data: the change in realized price, discounting, win rate, margin impact, affected segments, and likely drivers. I would distinguish correlation from confirmed causes and offer actionable recommendations, such as revised discount thresholds, packaging changes, or targeted sales enablement. The goal would be to make the trade-offs and proposed decisions immediately understandable.
