The role, at a glance.
Qualtrics is seeking a senior program leader to establish and scale enterprise privacy compliance and data-governance capabilities across Legal, Security, Engineering, and Product. The role owns a centralized “Data Front Door” for data-access and novel-use-case intake, along with a data marketplace and use-case repository. It translates privacy, contractual, and security requirements into technical controls such as RBAC/ABAC, data classification, lineage, and row- or column-level protections. Success depends on building self-service governance workflows, driving adoption metrics, and influencing executive stakeholders in a high-growth SaaS environment.

Sample interview questions
I would begin by defining request categories, required intake fields, decision owners, service-level targets, and risk tiers. I would then implement a workflow that routes low-risk standard requests to pre-approved self-service paths while escalating sensitive or novel uses to Legal, Privacy, Security, and data owners. Finally, I would track turnaround time, repeat request themes, approval rates, and exceptions to continuously improve the process.
I would first clarify the legal requirement, the relevant data elements, processing purpose, retention expectations, and contractual limitations. With Security and Engineering, I would map those requirements to controls such as role- or attribute-based access, tokenization, masking, row-level policies, purpose-based entitlements, or audit logging. I would document the decision and validate the control through testing and periodic review.
I would measure catalog coverage, ownership assignment, classification completeness, lineage coverage, policy exception volume, access-request turnaround time, self-service resolution rate, and adoption of approved datasets or use cases. I would also report risk-oriented metrics, including overdue remediation items and access-control review completion. These measures balance operational efficiency with risk reduction.
I would make the decision criteria transparent by clarifying the intended use, data sensitivity, legal basis, customer commitments, and available mitigations. Rather than offering only a yes-or-no outcome, I would propose a safe path forward, such as de-identified data, narrower access, a limited pilot, or additional controls. If risk remains unacceptable, I would document the rationale and escalate through the agreed governance process.
The most relevant experience includes configuring catalog metadata, business glossaries, ownership workflows, classification rules, and lineage integrations in tools such as Collibra, Alation, Atlan, or DataGalaxy. On platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, or GCP, I would apply that governance model through access policies, tagging, data discovery, auditability, and collaboration with platform engineering. The objective is to make trusted data easy to find and safe to use.

Senior Program Manager, Privacy Compliance & Data Governance
Why We Have This Role
We’re hiring a Senior Program Manager, Privacy Compliance & Data Governance to establish, scale, and orchestrate our enterprise Information Governance program. You’ll sit at the intersection of Legal, Security, Engineering and Product, bridging the gap between business strategy, legal compliance, data security, and engineering. Rather than acting as a traditional gatekeeper, you will build and manage our “Data Front Door” to directly address how teams discover data rights, request entitlements, and manage novel data use cases safely and efficiently.
How You’ll Find Success and Grow
In this role, you won’t just manage compliance—you will shape how our organization safely innovates with data in an increasingly complex global landscape.
- Lead Enterprise-Wide Change: Grow your capability as a transformational program leader. You will drive a company-wide “Privacy by Design” culture, mentoring cross-functional team members and establishing sustainable governance practices that scale with business growth.
Governance Framework & Tooling Strategy: Deep fluency in privacy and data governance, establishing enterprise frameworks, data catalogs, and business glossaries that scale across high-growth SaaS environments.
- Strong Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities to distill complex privacy, legal, and technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance for executive stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
Operational Enablement: Proven capability to design centralized intake and triage processes (“Data Front Door”) that convert complex legal and security requirements and restrictions into frictionless, self-service internal workflows.
Cross-Functional Alignment: Ability to bridge legal and privacy compliance requirements (stemming from laws such as HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, etc.) with practical and understandable technical access controls, working seamlessly alongside Legal, Security, Engineering and Product teams.
Proactive Execution: Takes initiative to define the “how” in ambiguity, driving cross-functional alignment and resolving policy conflicts across teams.
Adaptive Curiosity: A drive to stay ahead of evolving privacy and data security laws, security architectures, and novel AI/ML data use cases to keep our governance framework compliant, modern, and flexible.
- Elevate Executive & Strategic Influence: Scale your leadership presence by interfacing directly with leadership and executive stakeholders. You will hone your ability to turn complex legal requirements into business enablers and present risk metrics directly to executive-level audiences.
Things You’ll Do
- Build the “Data Front Door”: Design and manage a centralized intake and triage process for custom data access requests, novel data questions, and complex derivative work inquiries.
- Curate the Data Marketplace: Establish a centralized Use Case Repository and Data Marketplace detailing pre-approved data uses, restrictions, and licensing parameters across distinct datasets.
- Automate Metadata & Classification: Partner with engineering and security teams to implement automated data classification, lineage tracking, and metadata harvesting.
- Translate Policy into Technical Controls: Collaborate with InfoSec to operationalize legal requirements into enforced technical access controls (RBAC/ABAC) and row/column-level security protocols.
- Drive Governance Adoption: Measure program success through adoption KPIs, request turnaround times, and governance maturity metrics, delivering self-service documentation and onboarding across the org.
What We’re Looking For On Your Resume

- Technical aptitude with cloud data ecosystems (e.g. Snowflake, Databricks, AWS/GCP), SQL, and data security mechanisms (e.g. hashing, tokenization, anonymization etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to create business-friendly, self-service workflows that accelerate R&D and AI/ML initiatives while ensuring compliance with laws and contractual requirements and adherence to security frameworks.
- Preferred certifications, examples include:
- IAPP: CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, or CIPT
