Sample interview questions
I would assess each item against revenue and customer impact, operational risk, compliance needs, technical dependencies, migration readiness, and delivery effort. I would prioritize work that protects critical operations, removes recurring manual effort, or creates reusable foundations for the target architecture, while explicitly documenting items that should not be enhanced because they would increase legacy debt.
I would map the lifecycle from product and pricing configuration through usage event capture, validation, rating, overage calculation, invoice generation, revenue recognition, reporting, and exception handling. I would define business rules, ownership, data contracts, integration dependencies, audit controls, acceptance criteria, and reconciliation metrics with Finance, Billing Operations, Engineering, and Revenue Operations.
I would first document the current-state process, systems of record, event triggers, data mappings, failure paths, and manual interventions. Then I would establish clear provisioning states, idempotent integration behavior, monitoring and retry procedures, ownership for exceptions, and success metrics such as provisioning time, defect rate, and entitlement accuracy.
I would use governed catalog standards, versioned pricing and bundle rules, approval workflows, impact assessments, and end-to-end testing across quoting, ordering, fulfillment, billing, and revenue reporting. I would also involve Finance and Revenue Operations early to validate accounting metadata, effective dates, discount treatment, and reporting requirements.
I would make the trade-offs explicit through a shared problem statement, quantified impact, dependency map, and transparent prioritization criteria. Regular decision forums, documented owners, and clear release milestones help teams resolve disagreements while maintaining accountability for customer, revenue, and operational outcomes.
