About this role.
About Us
Fieldguide is establishing a new state of trust for global commerce and capital markets through automating and streamlining the work of assurance and audit practitioners specifically within cybersecurity, privacy, and financial audit. Put simply, we build software for the people who enable trust between businesses.
We’re based in San Francisco, CA, but built as a remote-first company that enables you to do your best work from anywhere. We’re backed by top investors including Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Bessemer Venture Partners, 8VC, Floodgate, Y Combinator, DNX Ventures, Global Founders Capital, Justin Kan, Elad Gil, and more.
We value diversity — in backgrounds and in experiences. We need people from all backgrounds and walks of life to help build the future of audit and advisory. Fieldguide’s team is inclusive, driven, humble and supportive. We are deliberate and self-reflective about the kind of team and culture that we are building, seeking teammates that are not only strong in their own aptitudes but care deeply about supporting each other’s growth.
As an early stage start-up employee, you’ll have the opportunity to build out the future of business trust. We make audit practitioners’ lives easier by bringing together up to 50% of their work and giving them better work-life balance. If you share our values and enthusiasm for building a great culture and product, you will find a home at Fieldguide.
About the Role
We’re hiring a Motion Designer to join the Fieldguide team. You’ll own the animations, product explainers, and campaign pieces that bring our product and brand to life. You’ll take dense, technical product and brand concepts and turn them into visual stories that are sharp, credible, and engaging. This is a dedicated motion design seat: you’ll partner closely with our creative team to set the standard for motion and animation at Fieldguide, and build the visual language for how we represent our product and its ideas in motion.
What You’ll Do
Design and animate motion graphics for brand videos, product explainers, campaign content, and event deliverables, translating technical and strategic concepts into visuals that resonate and connect with our audience.
Build the visual language for how we represent our product and its ideas in motion: UI animation, data visualization, conceptual/abstract sequences, and typography-driven storytelling.
Own and evolve our motion design system (transitions, iconography in motion, animation principles).
Work directly with brand, product marketing, and design to scope projects from concept through final delivery.
Partner with video editors on hybrid pieces, handing off or receiving cuts and layering in motion graphics, titles, and effects.
Who You Are
A strong portfolio of motion work that demonstrates visual storytelling, art direction, animation craft, and visual systems thinking.
A track record of making technical ideas visually clear. The ability to look at a paragraph of product or strategy language and see the animation in it.
Deep fluency in motion design tools and workflows such as After Effects, Figma, Cinema 4D, Lottie, Rive, code-adjacent motion, or comparable production tools.
Strong typography and systems thinking: you can build a visual language once and reuse it consistently across many pieces.
Comfortable working in Figma and collaborating directly with Product Designers to translate complex UI into marketing motion.
A team player who brings a unique sense of aesthetics and passion for bringing concepts to life.

Sample interview questions
I would first identify the audience, core message, and desired action, then reduce the source material into a concise narrative arc: problem, mechanism, value, and outcome. I would use storyboard frames and an animatic to validate the idea early, applying UI animation, clear typography, and purposeful visual metaphors only where they improve comprehension.
I would audit existing brand and product assets, define core animation principles, and establish reusable components such as transitions, easing curves, icon behaviors, type treatments, and UI motion patterns. I would document these standards with examples and templates so teams can apply them consistently while retaining room for campaign-specific expression.
I align on the user journey and interaction intent before animating, then work from organized Figma files and prototypes to preserve product behavior and hierarchy. I share early motion studies, collect feedback on clarity and feasibility, and provide export-ready specifications or assets that support a smooth handoff.
Effective enterprise motion prioritizes clarity, pacing, and credibility over decoration. I use animation to establish hierarchy, show cause and effect, explain workflows, and focus attention on product value, while keeping the visual language aligned with the brand and avoiding unnecessary complexity.
I scope each project into defined stages, such as concept, storyboard, styleframes, animation, review, and delivery, then clarify stakeholders, dependencies, and feedback owners at the outset. I prioritize work by launch impact and production risk, communicate trade-offs early, and reuse approved system components to maintain quality at speed.
