  • Help maintain the integrity of our chart of accounts and financial static data.
  • Resolve miscellaneous inquiries and support the overall finance team wherever needed – from forecasting and valuations, to bank transfers, transfer pricing and tax policy research!

Sample interview questions
How have you improved a month-end close process while maintaining strong financial controls?

I would first map the close timetable, control points, reconciliations, and recurring manual tasks. I would prioritise changes that reduce rework and handoffs, such as standardised reconciliations, automated journal support, and clear ownership, then monitor close duration, exceptions, and control evidence after implementation.

How would you assess the accounting treatment for a new banking product?

I would understand the product economics, contractual cash flows, customer journey, and operational data first. I would then assess the relevant accounting standards, document the technical conclusion and alternatives, identify ledger and reporting impacts, and work with product, legal, risk, and systems teams to implement and test the treatment.

Describe how you would use SQL in a financial-control role.

I would use SQL to extract controlled populations for reconciliations, investigate variances, validate completeness of postings, and create repeatable reporting datasets. I would validate query logic against the general ledger and source systems, document assumptions, and ensure outputs have appropriate review controls.

How do you communicate a complex accounting issue to non-finance stakeholders?

I start with the business decision and practical impact rather than technical terminology. I explain the key issue, options, risks, recommended treatment, and actions required in plain language, while retaining a detailed technical paper for audit and governance purposes.

How would you manage competing priorities during year-end and a fast month-end close?

I would establish a risk-based plan with clear deadlines, dependencies, and owners, focusing first on material balances, regulatory needs, and audit-critical deliverables. I would communicate emerging risks early, maintain concise status reporting, and escalate resource or decision blockers before they affect the close.
