Expectations of this role

This is a remote, field-based role for someone based in San Francisco or the Bay Area, California. That means you are expected to be regularly engaged in customer-facing activities, including in-person meetings, events, and other travel as required to effectively support your territory.

Your primary work location will be your home office, but your role requires a lot of mobility and flexibility. Travel within your assigned territory, and occasionally outside of it, will be a part of your job, and you are responsible for managing your schedule in a way that works for the company and you.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience selling to large organizations and high-growth companies, including customers with 500 or more employees.

  • A strong track record of exceeding significant annual sales quotas and closing complex, multi-product opportunities.

  • Experience selling enterprise platforms, cybersecurity solutions, or adjacent technologies such as identity and access management (IAM), privileged access, cloud security, endpoint security, developer security, or credential security.

  • The ability to build trusted relationships with Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), Chief Information Officers (CIOs), senior security and information technology leaders, IAM teams, security architects, and other executive stakeholders.

  • A record of winning new strategic customers and expanding existing accounts through cross-sell, upsell, and multi-year agreements.

  • Strong executive communication, discovery, account planning, pipeline management, forecasting, negotiation, and opportunity-management skills.

  • A collaborative, curious, and accountable approach, with the ability to connect technical priorities to clear business outcomes and continuously improve through feedback.

What you can expect:

  • Develop and execute account and territory plans across a focused portfolio of customers and prospects.

  • Create executive relationships and identify opportunities across identity security, artificial intelligence, privileged access, Software as a Service (SaaS) governance, developer workflows, and device security.

  • Lead customer conversations from an urgent access or credential challenge toward a broader 1Password Unified Access strategy spanning people, AI agents, and machines.

  • Orchestrate complex sales cycles involving security, IAM, information technology, DevOps, platform engineering, finance, legal, procurement, and executive sponsors.

  • Lead discovery sessions, workshops, executive presentations, business-value discussions, commercial negotiations, and close plans.

  • Partner internally with Business Development Representatives, Solutions Engineering, Channels, Alliances, Customer Success, Product, Marketing, Legal, and Deal Desk to create strong customer outcomes.

  • Represent 1Password in customer meetings, executive briefings, trade shows, and industry events while maintaining accurate opportunity data, forecasts, and account plans in Salesforce.

USA-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $96,000 USD and $139,000 USD, and is commission-eligible. At 1Password, we approach each individual’s compensation with a promise of fair market value and internal equity commensurate with experience and specific skill set.

Our culture
At 1Password, we prioritize collaboration, clear and transparent communication, receptiveness to feedback, and alignment with our core values: keep it simple, lead with honesty, and put people first.

You’ll be part of a team that challenges the status quo, and is excited to experiment and iterate in search of the best solution. That said, 1Password is not for everyone. Our work is demanding, we strive for excellence, and the pace is fast. We need people who are keen to take on challenging problems, who seek feedback to grow, and who are driven to make an impact. If you’re looking for a place where you can settle into a comfortable routine, this might not be the right fit for you. We’re looking for individuals who are proven experts in their fields, as well as those who are highly adaptable, can thrive in ambiguity and through change, are curious, and above all deliver results.

How we work with AI
We are committed to leveraging cutting-edge technology—including AI—to achieve our mission. We also understand that thinking critically about AI in its current forms will help us create better solutions for our customers and ourselves with its future forms, which will help us continue to close the gap between security and privacy and achieve our mission. We want team members at all levels to take the approach of actively learning AI best practices, identifying opportunities to apply AI in meaningful ways, and driving innovative solutions in their daily work. Embracing the future of AI isn’t just encouraged—it’s an essential part of how we will be successful at 1Password.

This approach extends to our hiring process—candidates are welcome to use AI tools responsibly and thoughtfully during the application process. To us, this means we do ask that you join live interviews without using AI tools so we can get to know how you communicate, solve problems, and collaborate with others.

Our approach to work
We recognize the power of both in person collaboration and remote work. Some roles are designated as remote-first, with an expectation that individuals work from their homes majority of the time, while others are designated as in-office roles, with an expectation of being on-site on a regular basis. We recognize that certain roles benefit from regular, in-person connection to support collaboration, team cohesion, and customer engagement.

For all roles, occasional travel may be required. This includes things like: department-wide offsites, quarterly department meetings and periodic customer events. These events are typically held in varying locations across Canada, USA and/or EMEA. In leadership roles, you can expect to travel once per month on average.

Note: All go-to market roles will have an in-person onboarding in Toronto.

Sample interview questions
How have you managed a complex enterprise sales cycle with multiple technical and business stakeholders?

I begin by mapping the buying committee, their priorities, decision criteria, and approval process. I run structured discovery with technical and executive stakeholders, align the solution to business outcomes, maintain a mutual action plan, and use regular deal reviews to remove risks before procurement and legal stages.

Describe a time you exceeded a significant sales quota in a cybersecurity or enterprise-software role.

I exceeded quota by prioritizing accounts with clear business triggers, creating account plans for executive sponsors and technical champions, and running a consistent pipeline cadence. I increased conversion by connecting the platform's security capabilities to measurable risk reduction, productivity, and consolidation outcomes.

How would you position 1Password to a CISO who initially sees it only as a password manager?

I would first understand the CISO's current access, identity, device, and credential-risk challenges. Then I would reframe the conversation around Unified Access Management: securing access across people, applications, devices, AI agents, and machines while improving employee productivity and governance.

How do you maintain reliable forecasts while pursuing large, long-cycle opportunities?

I qualify opportunities against documented business pain, stakeholder alignment, technical validation, commercial process, timeline, and next steps. I use CRM hygiene, stage-specific exit criteria, and an evidence-based commit forecast, while separating upside opportunities from deals with verified close plans.

What is your approach to using AI in your daily sales workflow?

I use AI responsibly to prepare account research, summarize discovery insights, identify patterns in pipeline activity, draft tailored follow-ups, and improve coaching preparation. I validate outputs against customer facts and use the time saved to focus on higher-value customer conversations and deal strategy.
