Engineering Management Growth Product Web Applications Conversion Optimization A/B Testing SEO Marketing Technology Team Leadership Agile Data-Driven

Dear Hiring Team,

I am excited to apply for the Engineering Manager (Crew Lead) - Growth Product position at Alan. With over 8 years of experience in software engineering and team leadership, I have a strong track record of building scalable web applications and driving growth through data-informed product decisions. At my previous company, I led a team that optimized conversion funnels, resulting in a 30% increase in member acquisition.

I am particularly drawn to Alan's mission to end the wait in healthcare and its focus on prevention. My background in combining technical execution with business strategy aligns perfectly with the dual impact required for this role. I have experience collaborating across marketing, product, and data teams to deliver measurable results.

I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to Alan's growth and would love to discuss how my skills can help build the new standard in prevention insurance.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Can you describe a time you led a team to improve a conversion funnel? What metrics did you use and what was the outcome?
At my previous role, I led a team of 5 engineers to optimize our landing page conversion funnel. We implemented A/B testing on call-to-action placements and reduced load times. We tracked conversion rate and time-to-signup. The result was a 20% increase in conversion and a 15% decrease in time-to-signup.
How do you balance hands-on coding with management responsibilities?
I allocate specific time blocks for coding, typically focusing on high-impact tasks like architecture or critical bug fixes. I use agile ceremonies for team alignment, and I delegate operational tasks to senior engineers. I also set clear expectations with my team about my availability for code reviews and mentoring.
Describe a growth experiment you designed and executed. What tools and methodologies did you use?
I designed an experiment to test the impact of personalized onboarding emails on user retention. We used Google Optimize for A/B testing, Segment for event tracking, and a combination of SQL and Python for analysis. The experiment showed a 10% lift in 30-day retention, and we rolled it out to all new users.
How do you foster a product mindset within your engineering team?
I encourage engineers to understand user needs by involving them in user research sessions and sharing product metrics. I also promote ownership by allowing engineers to propose features and run their own experiments. Regular retrospectives focus on both technical and product outcomes.
Given Alan's focus on prevention and insurance, how would you approach building trust with users through your product?
Building trust starts with transparency and reliability. I would ensure our website communicates clear value, provides easy access to support, and uses reassuring design elements. A/B testing trust signals like testimonials or security badges can help. Also, ensuring fast load times and a seamless experience reduces friction and builds confidence.
