Key Skills

Scrum Agile SAFe Jira CI/CD DevSecOps Security Clearance Backlog Management Team Coaching Servant Leadership

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am excited to apply for the Senior Scrum Master position at MANTECH. With over 5 years of experience guiding Agile teams and a proven track record of implementing SAFe frameworks in secure environments, I am confident in my ability to drive your team's success. My background includes removing impediments, coaching self-organization, and collaborating with Product Owners to align backlogs with strategic goals.

I hold active Scrum certifications (CSM, SAFe SSM) and have worked extensively with Jira and CI/CD pipelines. Having supported DoD projects previously, I understand the importance of security clearances and compliance with federal regulations. I am eager to bring my servant leadership style to MANTECH and contribute to innovative defense solutions.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to discussing how I can help your team excel.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

How do you handle a team member who is resistant to Agile practices?
I would first understand their concerns through one-on-one conversations, then demonstrate the value of Agile by showing small wins. I'd involve them in retrospectives to voice feedback and gradually build trust, focusing on collaboration over compliance.
Describe your experience with SAFe. How do you ensure alignment across multiple Agile teams?
I have led PI planning sessions and used Scrum of Scrums to synchronize dependencies. I ensure transparency via a shared program board and regularly communicate with Release Train Engineers to align on objectives and resolve impediments.
How do you prioritize and manage a product backlog effectively?
I work closely with the Product Owner to ensure user stories are well-defined, prioritized by business value, and refined regularly. I facilitate backlog grooming sessions and use story mapping to visualize dependencies, ensuring the team works on the highest-impact items.
What metrics do you use to track team performance and improvement?
I use velocity, cycle time, and sprint burndown charts to track progress. Additionally, I focus on team happiness and retrospective action items to drive continuous improvement, avoiding metrics that encourage gaming.
How would you adapt your Scrum Master approach for a remote team with a government security clearance?
I would emphasize clear communication through daily standups via secure video calls, use Jira for transparency, and schedule regular retrospectives. I'd also ensure documentation complies with security protocols and foster a culture of trust and accountability, leveraging tools like Slack for async collaboration.
