Key Skills

SQL BigQuery ETL/ELT Data Warehousing GA4 Python Data Modeling Looker Studio API Integration Data Governance

I am excited to apply for the Senior Data Analytics Engineer position with Truelogic's client. With over 5 years of experience designing and building data warehouses from the ground up, I have a proven track record of creating scalable, automated reporting systems. My expertise in BigQuery, ETL pipeline development, and event-based analytics (including GA4 exports) aligns perfectly with the requirements of this role.

In my previous role, I built a multi-tenant data infrastructure that supported over 100 clients and millions of daily events. I am skilled in integrating disparate data sources, ensuring data quality, and delivering reporting-ready datasets for BI tools like Looker Studio. I thrive in cross-functional environments and am passionate about enabling data-driven decision-making.

I am eager to bring my architectural mindset and hands-on approach to help transition your platform from manual reporting to a robust, automated SaaS system. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to your team.

Can you describe a time when you built a data warehouse from scratch? What were the key architectural decisions you made?
In my previous role at a retail analytics startup, I built a data warehouse on BigQuery from scratch. I chose a star schema for simplicity and performance, implemented incremental ETL using Dataform, and set up GA4 exports. Key decisions included partitioning tables by date and clustering by venue ID to optimize queries for multi-tenant reporting.
How do you handle data quality and validation in your pipelines?
I implement automated validation checks at each stage of the pipeline, such as row count comparisons, null checks, and schema validation. I also set up monitoring alerts for failed runs and data anomalies. Documentation of data lineage and transformation logic is crucial for maintaining trust in the data.
What experience do you have with GA4 to BigQuery exports? How would you structure the event data for multi-account analytics?
I have set up GA4 exports for multiple clients, managing event tables partitioned by date. For multi-account analytics, I would create a unified events table with an account_id column, ensuring all event schemas are consistent. I would also build aggregation tables at the account and venue level for quick reporting.
How do you approach data modeling for a SaaS reporting system that must support multiple subscription tiers?
I would design a core set of fact and dimension tables that are tier-agnostic, then use access controls or views to restrict data based on subscription level. I would also create separate aggregated tables for each tier to ensure performance and cost efficiency.
Can you explain your process for integrating data from multiple sources like APIs, webhooks, and POS systems?
I start by understanding the data schema and update frequency of each source. I then use tools like Airbyte or custom Python scripts to extract data, followed by a staging area in BigQuery. I normalize the data into a common model, handling transformations in dbt. I also set up error handling and retries for API failures.

Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Data Engineer to design and build the foundational data infrastructure that will power a scalable, automated SaaS reporting system. This critical role focuses on transitioning the platform from manual dashboard creation to a robust reporting pipeline capable of supporting multiple client accounts, venues, and subscription tiers. The ideal candidate is an architectural builder at heart, bringing deep expertise in constructing data warehouses entirely from scratch, establishing ETL processing, and creating reporting-ready datasets that will enable future analysts and client-facing business intelligence tools to thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the reporting data architecture, structuring BigQuery datasets, tables, and views for scalable, multi-account, and multi-venue analytics.

  • Build and manage ingestion pipelines from multiple disparate data sources, utilizing APIs, webhooks, scheduled syncs, ETL/ELT tools, or custom scripts.

  • Set up and manage data exports from GA4 to BigQuery, establishing clean data relationships across all reporting entities including accounts, venues, campaigns, and subscription tiers.

  • Integrate diverse data streams including Google Tag Manager, CMS platforms, email and SMS marketing tools, receipt validation services, and POS systems.

  • Create clean SQL models to transform raw behavioral data and business metadata into reusable, reporting-ready tables.

  • Prepare foundational data models to power automated dashboards and client-facing analytics for various BI platforms like Looker Studio.

  • Establish comprehensive data quality assurance processes, validation checks, and actively monitor pipeline reliability.

  • Maintain clear, thorough documentation for schemas, data flows, transformations, reporting logic, and event taxonomies.

  • Partner cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to ensure tracking is implemented correctly and to support privacy-conscious data practices.

Qualifications and Job Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, product analytics, or data analysis.

  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience building a data warehouse or reporting database entirely from scratch (this is a mandatory requirement for the role).

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and extensive experience structuring and managing BigQuery.

  • Proven ability to build, manage, and scale ETL or ELT data pipelines.

  • Deep understanding of event-based analytics and direct experience with GA4 to BigQuery exports.

  • Expertise in data modeling for analytics and the ability to create reporting-ready datasets for BI tools.

  • Experience working with APIs, webhooks, or scheduled data syncs to join data across multiple sources.

  • Exceptional documentation, data governance, and data QA habits.

  • Experience with Looker Studio, Looker Studio Pro, or other white-label reporting platforms (e.g., AgencyAnalytics, Databox, DashThis) is preferred.

  • Familiarity with modern data tools and scripting languages such as Python, Zapier, or Google Cloud Functions is a plus.

  • Experience defining GA4 event taxonomies and working with Google Tag Manager is highly advantageous.

  • Background in SaaS reporting, client-facing dashboards, or multi-tenant analytics is preferred.

  • Familiarity with marketing platforms, CMS tools (like Sanity CMS), marketing automation systems (like Mailchimp), or POS systems is a plus.

  • Prior experience in hospitality, retail, CPG, loyalty, rebates, or campaign attribution reporting is a strong plus.
