Cover letter sample

I am writing to express my strong interest in the Expert Automobilia position at Catawiki. With over 10 years of experience in automotive collectibles and auction management, I have developed a deep expertise in car parts and their market dynamics. My background includes curating high-value lots, setting optimal reserve prices, and building lasting relationships with collectors and dealers.

At my previous role, I successfully increased sell-through rates by 20% through strategic lot curation and detailed market analysis. I am passionate about Catawiki's mission to make special objects accessible and thrive in collaborative, remote environments.

I am confident that my skills align perfectly with your team's goals and look forward to contributing to the growth of your Automobilia category.

Sample interview questions
Can you describe your experience with evaluating and authenticating car parts for auction?

I have over 8 years of experience in automotive parts authentication, working with both vintage and modern components. I typically start by examining material quality, manufacturer markings, and provenance documentation. For rare pieces, I consult with industry experts and reference databases to confirm authenticity and fair market value.

How would you determine the optimal reserve price for a rare car part lot?

I analyze recent auction results for similar items, current market demand, and the item's condition and rarity. I also consider the seller's expectations and historical sell-through rates in the category. My goal is to set a reserve that protects the seller's value while encouraging competitive bidding, often starting slightly below market average to generate interest.

Describe a time you had to manage a difficult seller or buyer relationship in an auction context.

Once, a seller was unhappy with the final sale price of a classic engine block. I explained the market data and how reserve pricing works, and offered to feature their next lot with enhanced marketing. I maintained transparency and built trust, resulting in a long-term partnership. Effective communication and empathy were key.

How do you stay updated on trends in the automobilia market?

I regularly attend automotive auctions, follow industry publications like Hemmings and Classic Cars, and participate in forums and collector groups. I also network with dealers and restorers to gain insights on emerging trends, such as the growing interest in electric vehicle parts.

What strategies would you use to grow the Automobilia category on Catawiki?

I would leverage my network to attract high-quality sellers and collaborate with marketing to highlight exclusive lots. I'd also analyze category performance data to identify popular subcategories and adjust curation accordingly. Building trust through accurate valuations and excellent customer service will drive repeat business and word-of-mouth growth.
