Sample interview questions
In my previous role, I advised a retail energy provider on compliance with the Energy Retail Code and managed breach reporting processes, including the assessment of reportable events, coordination with internal teams, and submission of reports to the Essential Services Commission within required timeframes.
I would first verify the facts and assess the materiality of the breach, then consult with relevant internal stakeholders to gather accurate information. If required, I would prepare and submit the breach report to the ESC promptly, while advising the business on corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
I was asked to review and negotiate a supplier contract within 48 hours. I prioritized key risk areas, provided clear and practical advice on the main issues, and worked with the commercial team to reach an agreement that protected the company's interests while maintaining the business relationship.
I regularly review updates from the ESC, AEMC, and other regulatory bodies, participate in industry webinars and working groups, and maintain a network of colleagues in the energy sector. I also subscribe to legal updates and use continuing professional development opportunities to deepen my expertise.
Autonomy means taking ownership of my areas of responsibility and being trusted to deliver practical legal advice without requiring constant supervision. To manage competing priorities, I use a structured approach to plan my work, assess urgency and importance, and communicate clearly with stakeholders about expectations and timeframes.
