Dear Hiring Manager,

I am excited to apply for the Architectural Sales Representative position at dormakaba. With a strong background in B2B sales and a deep understanding of the architectural and construction industry, I have consistently built lasting relationships with architects and specifiers. My experience aligns well with your requirements, including a proven track record of developing project pipelines and collaborating with design teams.

I am particularly drawn to dormakaba's reputation for innovation and its comprehensive access solutions portfolio. My ability to network effectively through CSI, AIA, and DHI events, combined with my technical knowledge of door and hardware systems, positions me to drive specifications and sales growth in the Suffolk/Virginia Beach territory. I am eager to contribute to your team and exceed performance targets.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to discussing how my sales expertise and industry insight can benefit dormakaba.

Sincerely, [Your Name]

Sample interview questions
Describe your experience in architectural sales and how you have successfully built relationships with architects and specifiers.

I have over 5 years of experience in architectural sales, focusing on building trust with architects by understanding their project needs. I regularly attend CSI and AIA events, and I use a consultative approach to help them specify the right products. For example, I developed a key relationship with a large architecture firm that led to a 20% increase in specifications within my territory.

How do you manage a territory with 50% travel and still maintain strong follow-up with clients?

I prioritize by using a CRM to track upcoming projects and touchpoints. I schedule my travel strategically to maximize face-to-face meetings while reserving time for virtual check-ins. I also set aside specific days for administrative tasks and follow-ups, ensuring no client is neglected.

What is your approach to learning and promoting a complex product portfolio, such as door hardware and access control solutions?

I am proactive about continuous learning. When I joined my last company, I dedicated time to studying product specifications, attending training sessions, and even job-site visits. I also leverage resources like DHC and CDT certifications to deepen my technical knowledge. This allows me to confidently explain product benefits and answer technical questions from architects.

Can you give an example of a difficult sales target you achieved and how you did it?

In my previous role, I was assigned a territory that had declining sales. I analyzed market data, identified key architectural firms with upcoming projects, and developed a tailored presentation for each. By also collaborating with local construction associations, I increased the project pipeline by 30% within six months and exceeded my annual target by 15%.

How do you plan to handle the certification requirements and maintain them once hired?

I already hold a CDT certification and I am currently working toward my DHC. I plan to complete the DHC within the first year of employment, as required. I will stay updated by attending industry seminars, participating in dormakaba's training, and networking through DHI to ensure my certifications remain current.
