Cover letter sample
Dear Hiring Team,
I am excited to apply for the Senior Software Engineer position at Ayrshare. With over 8 years of experience building scalable APIs and distributed systems, I have deep expertise in Node.js, React, and cloud infrastructure, and I thrive in high-trust, remote-first environments.
Your focus on a developer-first, headless API platform aligns perfectly with my passion for creating reliable and elegant developer tools. I am particularly drawn to the opportunity to launch Instagram Ads and integrate with AI coding platforms, as I enjoy tackling challenging technical problems that have real user impact.
I have a proven track record of owning critical system components while maintaining high uptime and code quality. I am adept at collaborating with leadership to translate strategy into execution and am comfortable working asynchronously with a small, senior team.
I would love to bring my expertise in architecture, pragmatic decision-making, and software quality practices to help Ayrshare continue to grow and innovate. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely, [Your Name]
Sample interview questions
I would outline a scenario where a new feature required quick deployment but carried risk to stability. I would explain how I used feature flags, phased rollouts, and monitoring to mitigate risk while still meeting deadlines. The key is pragmatic risk assessment and strong testing practices.
I would discuss using a microservices or modular monolith approach, with asynchronous processing via message queues, rate limiting, and retries with exponential backoff. I'd emphasize idempotency, caching, and using cloud-native services for auto-scaling and fault tolerance.
I have experience with RESTful APIs and SDKs, and would approach AI integration by first understanding the platform's capabilities and constraints. I'd design a clean abstraction layer to plugin AI features, ensuring the core API remains stable and extensible.
I would describe a specific challenge, such as reducing latency or resolving a bottleneck, and explain the analysis, options, and reasoning behind the chosen solution. I'd highlight measurable outcomes and trade-offs considered.
I would stress automated testing, code reviews, clear documentation, and continuous integration. I also believe in pragmatic approach: focus quality efforts on critical paths and use pair programming or design sessions for complex features.
